Touchstone Portrait Prize Winners - Congratulations
Founder’s Week is a time when St Pius X College honours the vision and legacy of Blessed Edmund Rice; a man who believed deeply in education, dignity, justice, and the transformative power of community. His mission was simple yet profound: to stand for all, with all. It is especially fitting, then, that we celebrate our College’s Touchstone Prize under this year’s portrait theme, 'For all with all'.
This theme invited our artists to look closely at the people around them; friends, family members, mentors, and members of our wider community, who, as your generation defines has main character energy. And to recognise the stories, strengths, and humanity within each sitter. A portrait is never merely an image; it is an act of respect and recognition. It quietly declares I see you. You matter. Your story belongs here.
The works submitted this year reflect that spirit beautifully. Across hundreds of entries, our students have demonstrated empathy, technical skill, and a willingness to look beyond the surface. They have captured not only likeness, but connection: relationships, resilience, and the quiet dignity of everyday people. In doing so, they echo Edmund Rice’s enduring call to walk together, to uplift one another, and to build a community where every person is valued.
Our judges faced an incredibly difficult task, as the standard of work was truly exceptional. Congratulations to all our award recipients, and to every student who submitted a work. Your courage to create and your generosity in celebrating others enrich our College community.
This year’s Touchstone Prize award recipients:
The Overall Winner for this Year’s Touchstone Portrait Prize: Jake Desertine
A sincere thank you to all our staff involved, our judges (Mr Lachlan Skeen, Ms Erika Sorby and Mr Fergus Fung), our families, and everyone who supported this event, especially our sponsors the College, and our art suppliers The Art Scene, Eckersley’s and S&S Wholesale. Your commitment ensures that the spirit of Edmund Rice continues to live through our students, not only in what they learn, but in how they see and honour one another.
We look forward to seeing all our aspiring artists continue their creative journeys and return to share their talents with us again next year.
