Mother's Day Mass and Biggest Morning Tea
Founder’s Week
The Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice is celebrated on 5 May each year. We use this week to celebrate the life and legacy of Edmund Rice. Our celebrations commenced on Monday morning with an animated assembly led by the Junior School who acted out the life of Blessed Edmund. The staff and students told the story so beautifully and left us with the true message of Edmund’s life - a desire to teach children in order to raise them from their lives of poverty.
On Tuesday, the actual feast day, we celebrated with our regular Tuesday morning Mass held in our College Chapel and led by our Chaplain Fr Hien.
Religious Education classes looked at Edmund Rice activities in class during the week, and the highlight of the week is the Founder’s Day Mass to be held this Friday, 8 May at Oxford Falls.
A reminder for all students involved in the Mass to meet at the College at 7:30 am to catch the buses to Oxford Falls in order to allow time for set up and rehearsals prior to Mass commencing at 10:15 am. After Mass the students will enjoy community time and upon returning to Chatswood will be dismissed early from school.
A reminder that this is a day of celebration, and as such, the students are able to wear their house shirts and sport uniforms.
Brigidine Social Justice Forum
On Tuesday 5 May Mr Balboa took 5 of our College student leaders to the Brigidine Social Justice Forum. This was a wonderful opportunity for the students to see what other schools do as part of their social justice initiatives and also allowed them time to talk to other like-minded students.
It was a valuable experience for them all. Thank you to those students for representing our College, and for Mr Balboa for accompanying them.
Mother's Day Mass and Biggest Morning Tea
Our annual Mother’s Day Mass was celebrated at Oxford Falls yesterday and was a wonderful community celebration where over 1,000 people joined together to share Mass and morning tea.
The celebration was led by College Chaplain Fr Hien who spoke of the importance of the role of mothers, and used Mary as our ultimate guide and model. We heard from Ms Joanna Huntley, mother of five boys who she affectionately called 'my Mirrabelli boys' (Nick Class 2023, George Class 2025, Gordon Year 12, Henry Year 9, and Bruno Year 8). She spoke about the reality of life in a house full of boys and the value she places on quality family time. Ms Huntley shared that being a mum was one of her biggest achievements and shared some of her fond memories of the love, laughter and chaos. Her reflections were heart felt and inspiring and we thank her for her time.
Thank you to all of the mums and other carers who joined us on Wednesday. Thank you to all those who worked hard behind the scenes to make the Mass such a tremendous success including the music, IT and Maintenance staff, the Mission Team and Mrs Ann Brady and Mrs Janelle Arena who provided such a lovely morning tea. Many hands really make light work!
Thank you also to those who have donated to the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea. Your generous donations have raised $1,510.
Wishing all mums a very Happy Mother’s Day for Sunday!
