Pride March

On the first weekend of term around 35 students, staff, family members (and even a couple of fur babies!) represented Thornbury High School by marching in the Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda. It was a beautiful day with thousands of people marching, clapping and cheering on the footpath, and celebrating the LGBTIQA+ community. We were blown away by the enthusiasm and support from the Thornbury High School community, and we can’t wait for next year’s march.

The Pride March was such a fun experience, and a really tangible way to bring the community together. Before we even began marching, all of Queer Intentions [the LGBTQIA+ club at THS] were buzzing with energy. Being surrounded by members of the queer community from all across Melbourne created such a wonderful feeling of camaraderie. When we finally started marching, the amount of support from the parade goers was overwhelming. It was really beautiful to see the support from everyone, but when we saw the Thornbury community standing up and celebrating with us, it really made the day. We’re so proud to be such a rallying point for the rest of the Thornbury community, and we hope our events and actions can continue to inspire everyone to be their fullest self.
