Principal's News

Dear SMCM Community, Wominjeka!
Thank you for your continued support of our Shop for Your School fundraising efforts. With just three days remaining to upload receipts, we are currently at the top of the leaderboard! Every receipt counts as we try and hold onto first place. The funds raised through this competition will contribute to the construction of a second synthetic soccer pitch, which is scheduled to be installed in August.
Thank you to all the leaderboard legends!
Managing Winter Illnesses
Winter has certainly arrived, bringing with it the cold and flu season. We are already noticing an increase in coughs, runny noses and other seasonal illnesses across the school.
Thank you for keeping your child at home when they are unwell and for following the recommended exclusion periods for illnesses that can spread easily, including colds and flu, gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis and COVID-19. These simple actions play an important role in protecting the health and wellbeing of all students, staff and families in our school community.
We appreciate your support in helping to minimise the spread of illness and ensuring that our learning environments remain safe and healthy for everyone.
The Victorian Department of Health provides the following guidance regarding exclusion periods for common infectious illnesses:
At school, we continue to promote good hygiene habits such as regular handwashing or sanitising, cleaning of surfaces and high-touch areas, as well as practising proper coughing and sneezing etiquette. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these behaviours at home to help minimise the spread of germs.
When our students become unwell, unfortunately, our staff are also at risk of falling ill. While we do our very best to minimise disruptions to student learning and programs during staff absences, there may be times when staff shortages are unavoidable. Thank you for your ongoing patience, flexibility and understanding during these times.
2025 Annual Report to the School Community
The 2025 Annual Report to the School Community is now published. The Annual Report, which is approved by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS), highlights our achievements across the School Improvement Spheres and provides insight into the growth and development of our school throughout the 2025 school year.
This week I am attending the North East Principals' Conference. Thank you to our Deputies Lisa and Jess for leading our school in my absence.
A reminder that Semester 2 Reports will be published on Compass next Friday 19th June and Monday 22nd June is a Pupil Free Day as teachers plan for Term 3.
Stay warm and well!
