Principal's Report

Dear Parents,

This term we welcome several staff to Mackellar Primary School, some new and one returning. Replacing Judy Tanner in grade 5B we welcome Gabrielle Sammut, and replacing Jaida Bonnici in grade 3B we welcome Chloe Rae. Both of these teachers completed teaching rounds here as pre-service teachers, and it is great to have them back now in this capacity. We also welcome Shannon Berrabah back to Mackellar. Some of you may remember Shannon from last year teaching grade prep. Shannon is replacing Stephanie Sousa in grade 3A and as grade 3 Team Leader.

Last Wednesday, 27 students participated in Wakakirri at the Clock Tower in Moonee Ponds. Wakakirri is a nationwide Festival for Australian schools that provides a platform for students to express their thoughts, ideas, and aspirations through the art of storytelling and dance. Our students have been rehearsing for several months with their choreographer Andy, and put on a wonderful performance and should be extremely proud of themselves. A special thank you to Tanya Lindsay-Clark for her coordination of the event. As a special treat, the students will be performing their piece at our upcoming school production.

If you haven't done so already, there is still time to book a parent-teacher interview for tomorrow or Thursday by jumping onto XUNO. Interviews start at 1:30pm tomorrow with students dismissed at 1pm. Thursday's dismissal time is at 3:30pm as usual with interviews commencing after that.  Please contact us if you need any assistance to book a time.

Coming up on August 14th is our Brainstorm Production incursion for all students. Brainstorm's theatre in education programs use storytelling, music, movement and positive young role models to empower students with practical social and emotional skills. This is another of our preventative programs designed to be a creative and engaging addition to our existing cyber safety, student wellbeing and anti bullying programs.

However, by far the biggest event this term will be our production 'Age of Reason' to be held at Lakeside Reception on Thursday September 11th. Tickets are now on sale with adult tickets $20 each, school-aged siblings and teens $10 each, and a family ticket of 2 adults and 2 teens $50.  Toddlers and pre-schoolers are admitted for free but must sit on the lap of another. This is one event not to be missed!

Kind Regards,

Simon McGlade
