Clubs @ Mackellar

We are pleased to announce that lunchtime clubs are up and running, once again. Based on previous student surveys, our schedule includes the following interest-based activities; cheerleading, basketball, chess, sport/games and hot wheels. We also run imaginary play activities for Preps on Fridays.
Sincere thanks to parents Liz Reffke for running the Cheerleading Club, and Rob Carpenter and Eleanor Vassiliou for running the Basketball Blub. Congratulations to Alexander from 4A for the success and continuation of the Hot Wheels Club that he is the creative founder of.
The schedule below is promoted in all classrooms and each day, students are reminded about clubs at the start of lunchtime.
Lunchtime clubs have various benefits for children, impacting positively on their mental health and wellbeing.
Lunchtime clubs also:
build student engagement and inclusion
develop social and emotional skills
foster a positive school climate and increased student sense of safety
build peer-to-peer and teacher-student relationships and wellbeing
provide opportunities for students to build relationships with peers from other grades or year levels
provide a sense of personal empowerment and student voice
- improve academic achievement (following happy experiences where students feel included, valued and connected)
provide alternative activities
develop children’s repertoire of interests and hobbies
support students who may prefer structured play
support students who may feel anxious in the playground.
Kind Regards,
