A Message from the Principal

Dear Families and Friends
As we move through the term, there is much to celebrate across our College community. This edition of the newsletter captures some of the moments that make Salvado such a special place, from the graduation of our inaugural Year 12 cohort and the announcement of our 2027 student leaders, to the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation and the generosity and community spirit shown through Friends of Salvado and World Teachers' Day.
Year 12 Graduation
The Year 12 Graduation Liturgy and Ceremony held on Tuesday 20th October 2026 was a very important and special event for our College community as we acknowledged the wonderful Class of 2026. For our Year 12 students the daily routine that has been central to their lives in recent years has now ended and a new chapter awaits.
As I farewelled the Class of 2026, I challenged them to take all that they are to be superheroes to others beyond our community. I hope that they, along with all within our community, will nurture our College values of Peace, Justice and Compassion to bring the light and love of Christ to all they meet along their life journey.
I would like to acknowledge all of the staff that spent countless hours ensuring that our Year 12 Graduation Liturgy and ceremony was a wonderful celebration for the Class of 2026. My gratitude is also extended to the many parents and family members who attended the celebration and witnessed the passing of this important phase in their child’s life.
As a community we certainly wish the Class of 2026 much success in their upcoming exams and in the careers that await them. However, this will not be the measure by which the College ultimately determines whether it has provided good service to these graduates. This will be gauged by the extent to which each of these young people chooses to lead a life of service and become an agent for positive change in their society. We wish each of our graduates well in pursuit of these characteristics and Christ’s love and protection on the journey ahead.
Student Leadership 2027
This week we introduced our community to the 2027 College Leaders. We look forward with excitement to the new year as they work together to lead our student body. We have asked the 2027 student leaders to exemplify our Catholic leadership model.
A leader at Salvado Catholic College is a person of action, influence and integrity who leads with courage and compassion towards a harmonious community where all students are encouraged, nurtured and seeking excellence.
As a leader like Jesus and Dom Rosendo Salvado one must model:
Service and loyalty to the college community and its mission;
Courage, integrity and adaptability;
Collaborative authentic relationships marked by compassion and hope;
Search for truth, justice and mercy;
Vision with clear consideration of the impact on others and a sense of sacred;
Commitment to action and excellence through service, persistence and respect.
This model provides direction for a way of living that allows each member of the community to work together in a culture of service to help others to be the very best they can be.
For every member of our community, my leadership advice – act with a mindset of service. It is through action that leaders are made. It is through your actions that you demonstrate to others that you have the integrity and compassion to keep all members of the community together and on their search for excellence. Your actions give others permission to follow suit. Your actions create a culture of service. People are not born as leaders. Leadership develops one act of service at a time.
Congratulations to our newly appointed 2027 College Leaders who have taken on board our culture of service and we acknowledge and thank our 2026 Leaders who have been humble and successful servant leaders this year. Our Year 12 leaders have lived out the servant leadership across the year.
Sacrament of Confirmation
One of the most joyful celebrations in our College community this term was the Sacrament of Confirmation for our Year 6 students, held on Sunday, 1 November at Xavier Catholic Parish, Hilbert. Confirmation is an important part of the Catholic faith, where young people publicly affirm their commitment to the values and beliefs they have been learning about and are encouraged to live with courage, kindness, and compassion. Surrounded by their families, sponsors, staff, and parish community, our students proudly celebrated this special milestone in their faith journey.
We were privileged to welcome the Very Reverend Father Minh-Thuy Nguyen, Vicar for Priests of the Archdiocese of Perth, who celebrated Mass and conferred the Sacrament. We also extend our sincere thanks to Father Mark, Parish Priest, for his ongoing support and partnership with our College. This memorable occasion was made possible through the dedication and care of Christine Overing and Year 6 teachers Zoe Rosario and Declan Ryan, who guided and prepared the students so thoughtfully. We congratulate our Confirmation candidates and pray that they continue to grow as young people of faith, hope, and service within our community.
World Teachers' Day
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our Friends of Salvado and parent community for the beautiful morning tea provided for staff to celebrate World Teachers' Day last Tuesday. It was a thoughtful and generous gesture that was greatly appreciated by our team. The support we receive from our families is one of the many things that makes Salvado such a special community, and we are grateful for the partnership we share in supporting our young people. It was also a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, care, and professionalism of all our staff, whose commitment to our students extends far beyond the classroom each day. Together, they play a vital role in creating the welcoming, nurturing, and vibrant learning environment that our students enjoy and deserve.
This time of the term often brings a busy calendar of events, assessments, and activities. I encourage families to take a moment to read through this newsletter to stay informed about the many exciting things happening around the College. From classroom achievements to co-curricular successes, these stories are a reflection of the dedication of our students, staff, and families working together in partnership.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our College. As always, it is a privilege to witness the growth, resilience, and spirit of our young people each day.
God bless!
Ms Giovanna Fiume
