Before and After School Safety

Keeping children and families safe is a high priority here at Good Shepherd and that extends beyond the classroom. We ask that you take the time to read through this page to understand how we need your support as parents and caregivers.
Pedestrian Crossing
Please remember that 10km/h (walking pace) is the speed limit for our carpark and drive through area at all times - From entering at the church driveway until you have passed the Curiosity ELC driveway on Hillary Cresent.
When unmonitored – cars are to give way to pedestrians – however if you are a pedestrian, please check carefully before stepping into the lanes of traffic.
When monitored – please follow the directions of staff and the lollypop sign. They are there to keep pedestrians safe and to support the smoothest flow of traffic as possible.
Car Park / Kiss and Drop
There is one lane of traffic through the kiss and drop zone (left hand side, nearest to the verandah) and one lane for drive-through traffic (right hand side). Please be courteous and patient in your use of this space.
There are just a few reminders...
- Students may get out of or into cars that are stationary anywhere between the Yellow and Red diamonds.
- Please move as far forward as practical so that it is safe for you to pull out of the kiss and drop lane.
- Please do not get out of your car to assist children, if using 'kiss and drop' they need to be able to get out of or into the car themselves and strap themselves in.
- If your child sits in the K – Z space in front of the main office, please continue forward up to the bend to maximise space and allow more cars to be collecting students at the same time.
- Students must only be entering and exiting vehicles on the verandah side of the car.
- Please do not stop along the carpark anywhere after the uniform shop zebra crossing to pick up or drop off your child. Students cannot be picked up or dropped off outside of the 'kiss and drop' zone unless you are parking in a designated car park.
- Students have been reminded of their responsibility to be ready to get into the car at 'Kiss and Drop', and to predict and listen to teacher guidance when looking to where they will be getting into the car.
Beyond the School Grounds
Bus Stop - Thank you for following the signage that has been installed near the bus stop. In South Australia, you cannot stop or park within 20 metres of the approach to a bus stop and not within 10 metres of the departure of a bus stop.
U-Turns - When performing a U-Turn on Montague Road at Milligan Drive, you must give way to vehicles entering Montague Road from Milligan Drive. Please also be mindful of oncoming vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles.
Speed - Please maintain a speed of less than 25km once you have left the school grounds until you have passed the Curiosity ELC driveway. There have been a number of near misses as people have exited the carpark and accelerated too quickly.
Please also don't forget the new 40km speed zone on Montague Road. This speed limit applies during state school term time.
Playground Supervision
Before school: Students and families may access the school grounds starting at 8:15 am. Please refrain from arriving earlier unless your child is enrolled in the Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) program. Staff are on duty from 8:15am both on the Oval and Junior Primary play areas.
After school: The Hard Play and Middle Primary Playground areas are reserved exclusively for OSHC participants. If you are supervising siblings of students in after-school sports activities, we kindly ask families to utilise the oval and Junior Primary playground while providing adult supervision until 4:00pm.
All children should be waiting at kiss and drop where staff are on duty until 3:30pm.
Thank you for following our guidelines to ensure the safety of all children before and after school, and to support the efficient flow of traffic during these busy times.
