THE WEDDING SINGER

Halyna Mykyta

2018 marks the first year I have directed a musical for Footscray City College and I definitely had some big shoes to fill from the previous calibre of productions. This entire process was only possible due to the talented and dynamic staff team comprising Emma Schmidt, Matthew Weekes, Margaret Erickson, Jocelyn Jenson, Piri Jakab von Szengelice and Paul Dooley. As a creative team, I can say we have worked collaboratively with our cast and crew, dedicating many days and hours to bring The Wedding Singer to life. Each person’s input and advice has been invaluable. Furthermore, one of the highlights of this year has been seeing our students step up and offer to choreograph or direct parts of the show, including Audrey Page our Assistant Director. From all of us, I can say it was a fantastic process and we were so excited to bring you a fun filled comedy, with intense nostalgic 80’s flair, staged as if it were a soft-rock concert of the era.

I would like to thank a number of parents and staff who also volunteered their time and efforts to the show. Halyna Mykyta for her amazing photography and video efforts, Jo Curtis for coming in after school to assist with the creation of our 80’s inspired set & costumes and Maddie Vernon-Hayes, for her time spent doing hair and make-up. There are so many others to thank, so from all of us involved, a huge thank you for helping us bring this show to life.
