BOOK WEEK DRESS UP DAY
It's been a particularly busy term in the library. We celebrated book week with performances from bands and a parade of incredible costumes. Highly commended costumes included Allistair Lane for Edward Hyde (The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde), Alexandria Mozjerin as Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen), Ella Davidson as Scythe (Scythe by Neil Shusterman) and Neo Panitheng as Deadpool (Cable and Deadpool graphic novel).
MORE BOOK WEEK CELEBRATIONS
We were super fortunate to have award winning author Maxine Beneba Clarke give a talk and run a workshop for around 40 of our students on Thursday 23 August here in our library. Maxine's short fiction, non-fiction and poetry have been published in numerous publications including Overland, The Age, Meanjin, The Saturday Paper and The Big Issue. She was also named as one of the Sydney Morning Herald's Best Young Novelists for 2015. Maxine has published three poetry collections including Carrying the World, which won the Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Poetry 2017 and was shortlisted for the Colin Roderick Award. The Hate Race, a memoir about growing up black in Australia won the NSW Premier's Literary Award Multicultural NSW Award 2017 and was shortlisted for an ABIA, an Indie Award, the Victorian Premier's Literary Awards and Stella Prize. MELBOURNE WRITERS FESTIVAL EXCURSION STUDENT REFLECTIONS
Mali Hawke, Year 7: On Tuesday 28th August, 50 of our students from mixed year levels went to The Melbourne writers festival. Over the course of the day, we saw many artists perform including, Doctor Karl Kruszelnicki, Ellen Van Neerven and author/comedian Danny Katz. They talked about the current issues that we face in everyday life, and how to implement them in your writing. Overall we had a fantastic day and I can’t wait to make a visit next year!
Elise Ward, Year 7: The writers festival was a great idea! We saw people that had a dream and made it happen, to share their experiences with other people and inspire them. My favorite part was when we saw the comedy presentation. It was a great inspiration for a lot of people. The writers festival lets people see what they can actually do by watching other people share their ideas and advice! Hopefully we get to do it again! It's so much fun!

- Download the ePlatform app from the Apple, Google Play or Windows app stores.
- Look for Footscray City College and log in using a staff or student Compass username and password - you’ll only need to do this once.
- Search for, borrow and read or listen to any book of the 1250 eBooks and 500 audiobooks on offer.
Please get in touch with us in the library if you'd like more assistance with accessing eBooks or audiobooks.
