JUNIOR SPORT

The start of Term 2 has been extremely busy with several students participating in the many representative sporting opportunities offered by the College.

Riverina Associated Schools Netball Trials

In Week 1, Year 6 girls, Rachel, Piper, Harlem, Daisy, Pepper and Olivia attended the Riverina Associated Schools (RAS) Netball trials. Harlem and Piper were successful in selection and went on to compete in Sydney at the CIS Championships. It was a wonderful experience for the girls playing alongside some of the best young netballers from around the region. The RAS team came away from the competition with five wins. Congratulations Harlem and Piper.

Rugby Union Gala Day

Next on the sports calendar was the Brumbies Rugby Union Gala Day. A combined team of Year 3/4 boys were well prepared after several lunchtime training sessions with the local Rugby Union Development Officer. The team was led by Secondary School staff member Mr Luke Richardson and I would like to thank him for the time and effort he gave in sharing his expertise with our boys. Most of the players were new to Union, however, they were able to transfer many of their League and AFL skills into the game. It was an action packed day with a couple of wins and lots of bumps and bruises!

The boys are already keen for next year's competition. A special mention to Patrick from Year 5 who also attended the carnival. With our current small numbers, we were unable to field a Year 5/6 team and I would like to thank Young Public for welcoming Patrick into their team for the day.

Junior School Athletics Carnival

The Inaugural Junior School Athletics Carnival was in Week 3 and what a fantastic day it was! Many students shined throughout the day showing off their athletic ability! There was plenty of colour, lots of cheering and singing and even some dancing late in the afternoon.

We welcomed the Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students for part of the day and it was exciting to see them participate in a range of activities including a 70m sprint, relays, an egg and spoon race and many more. I would like to thank the Year 9 Prefect and the Year 9 PASS (Physical Activity and Sports Science) elective class for their assistance in running the carnival.

Riverina Associated Schools Athletics Carnival

The RAS (Riverina Associated Schools) Athletics Carnival will be held in Albury on Tuesday 3 August. Students who finished 1st and 2nd in each event have qualified for this representative pathway. Further information regarding this carnival will be sent home in the coming weeks.

Mortimer Shield League Tag

The Mortimer Shield League Tag competition was a fun day out! We entered three teams of Year 5 and Year 6 girls. Congratulations to Daisy, Hattie and Olivia who were named “Player of the day” in each of our teams.

Hopefully, as our Junior School grows we will be able to enter a boys Rugby League team in the coming years.

Riverina Associated Schools Cross Country

A team of 49 students attended the RAS Cross Country in Jindera during week 4. A highlight of the day was the cheering and support from all our students as each of us crossed the finish line. We had seven students who finished in the top 6 and will now travel to Sydney to compete in the NSWCIS event.

1st - Lucy (Yr 4)

2nd- Thomas (Yr 3)

3rd- Jack (Yr 3) and Charlie (Yr 4)

4th - Eliza (Yr 3)

6th - Primrose (Yr 4) and Noah (Yr 6)

We wish these students all the best at the CIS Championships next month.

NSW Futsal Championships

The NSW Futsal Championships was a great day with the College entering four teams into the competition. It was a very successful day with the Year 3 boys coming away with a win, the Year 3 girls won three games and were placed Runners Up in the Grand Final, the Year 4 girls won four games and won the Grand Final and the Year 4 boys went through the day undefeated and were also victorious in the Grand Final.

This means both the Year 4 teams have qualified for the state finals next term. Congratulations to all team members who demonstrated excellent skill and wonderful sportsmanship throughout the day.

Interschools Snowsport Championships

The Interschools Snowsport Championships provides an opportunity for Australian school students of all ages to experience competitive snowsports and to participate at either a recreational or competitive level. We have a small group of students from Kindergarten to Year 6, who will compete in July at Perisher in a range of disciplines such as Alpine, Ski Cross, Moguls, Snowboard GS, Snowboard Cross, Cross Country, and Ski and Snowboard Slopestyle. We wish these students the best of luck and look forward to hearing about the great experience. A huge thank you to Sophie Walsh for coordinating this event.

The final two events for the term will be the NSW Schools Netball Cup for our Yr 3- 6 girls and the Todd Woodbridge Cup Tennis Gala Day. Students who are interested in participating in these events will be invited to nominate this week.

Please note that all Representative sports permission notes will now be distributed to families via the Online Compass Portal. Once a student is selected into a team, they will be added to the specific event on Compass and require parental consent by approving the event.
