Presentation Evening

On Thursday, 15th December 2022, we were very happy to hold our first in-person Presentation Evening since 2019.

We would like to congratulate all of the award recipients, whose names appear below. These students have worked exceptionally hard throughout the year to achieve their personal best. They have upheld our SOAR values which underpin everything that we do at Pakenham Secondary College.

We would also like to thank all of the students, families, dignified guests, Mr Squires, who retired as our Principal in Term 2 this year, and community members who came along to support and celebrate this wonderful evening.

Sam Webster Family Trust Awards

Tara Cudmore - Year 11

Madelyn Foott - Year 12

Sam Webster graduated from Pakenham Secondary College in 1999 and went on to complete a Bachelor of Business / Bachelor of Tourism degree at Monash University. His family wanted to support a Year 11 and a Year 12 student. The Webster Family Trust was established over 30 years ago by Noel and Marj Webster who were deep rooted in the Pakenham Community. Both Noel and Marj lived well into their 90s. Both were highly active in the local community through pursuits such as local sports, the fire-brigade, businesses and many charitable organisations. Noel was stationed in Darwin during World War Two and was also Captain of the Pakenham Fire Brigade during the Ash Wednesday bushfires. Marj, even though she raised four children, was always on hand to support others in her charitable pursuits. The core focus of the Trust was focused on education. Its inception was purely around supporting their 10 grandchildren through primary, secondary and further education, but also for the children to pursue other business and career interests. Eight of the grandchildren completed their secondary education at Pakenham Secondary College and owe a great deal to the College and their teachers from the time they spent here. We thank Mr Webster for his continuing patronage of Pakenham Secondary College.

Long Tan Award

Alice Rogers - Year 10

Lucas Kiernan - Year 12

At the recent Valedictory dinner, Lieutenant Commander Dave Lassam from the Australian Defence Force Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award presented Lucas with this award.  Mr Smith, our Principal, presented Alice with her award on the 15th December.

The Australian Defence Force recognise and reward students who contribute to their fellow students and the broader community by displaying the qualities of leadership, teamwork, respect for others, doing one's best and mateship, as well as a willingness to serve within both their own school's and the broader community.

The Award was named after the Battle of Long Tan, which took place in a rubber plantation in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War in 1966. On this occasion, just over 100 Australian soldiers from D Company of the 6th Royal Australian Regiment held off a much superior force of between 1500 and 2500 Vietcong, this turned a probable Australian military disaster into a decisive victory. Although outnumbered 20 to 1 by a better equipped and more numerous enemy, the tenets of the qualities that the ADF rely on in their personnel came to the fore on that day.
