Swimming Carnival

After a last minute reschedule due to 40 degree weather, Year 7-9 students attended the school swimming carnival at the Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool. The new date of Tuesday 28th February saw keen swimmers join the younger year levels to compete. Although the day was a bit wet and cold it didn’t dampen the students' enthusiasm.

The day started with the freestyle and backstroke races and saw Nicholls race to an early lead. After the freestyle races the fun games commenced with water polo and elimination games in the smaller pool and 3 X 3 basketball out of the pool. Students were eager to join in all activities and add to their house points.

Later on the lilo races involved students pushing their house captains up the pool on the inflatables throughout a series of elimination races. There was controversy in the final as Nicholls reached the end of the pool first only to be disqualified as not all team members kept a hand on their lilo. Onus was sensationally declared the winner.

As tradition dictates, the last race of the day was once again the iron person race in which the fittest (or craziest) students completed the swim/run/swim.

After the points were tallied up the end result was:

1st   Nicholls           184 points

2nd  Saunders        119 points

3rd   Onus                118 points

4th   Blair                  114 points

Well done to all the students who dressed up and added to the fun of the day. Onus house captains deserve a special mention for their co-ordinated Steve, Bindi and Rob Irwin outfits. Congratulations to all students who attended and participated on the day. We look forward to seeing the entire school attend the Athletics Carni in term 2.

Thank you to the teachers, staff, house captains and VCE VM students who helped to ensure the swimming carnival was once again a success.
