Festival Bahasa

On Thursday, 23 August, 150 students from Warrnambool College, Cobden Technical School, Laver’s Hill P-12 and Portland Secondary College gathered in the auditorium for a day of Indonesian fun! Among us were a range of Indonesian native speakers, guests and teachers. We were delighted to also host some extra special guests at the College - Ibu Spica, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, and members of her team.

The day kicked off with some speeches, following by the screening of a number of short Indonesian films. One of the major highlights of the day was a series of workshops in which our students participated in traditional games, dance, martial arts and even football games in Indonesian.

The food academy managed to cater for all of us with a “nasi bungkus”, a takeaway box of beef rending, chicken curry, rice and prawn crackers. The culinary offerings were both authentic and delicious.  To cater so efficiently for such a large number took a monumental effort from Ms Hollis and the food academy team. Terima kasih!

While enjoying our lunch the rock band got involved too, performing a popular Indonesian song. They were joined on stage by a special guest singer - Bu Formby from Cobden Technical School.

Student feedback from the day included:

“It was great to see that everyone got involved and had a true Indonesian experience.”

“We now all want to learn how to cook “nasi bungkus”.

“What a fantastic day!”

“It was awesome to meet some native speakers and practise using our Indonesian.”
