House Report

Belfast

What’s been happening in BELFAST this term.

STUDENT LEADERS

This term our student leaders have been continuing to work on their two SMART goals that they developed at the leadership camp last year. These goals were based around improving the Belfast office area and the connection of our house staff with our Belfast students as well as looking at ways to improve our Belfast tutorials. They have already been successful in having some internal walls removed in the Belfast office and setting up a cooking station in the office as well.

Our student leaders will be working on our Smart goals after school on Wednesday the 12th Of September followed by a fitness session in the HPC and then tea at Zambreros. Anyone thinking of applying for student leadership please see a staff member in the Belfast office.

DODGEBALL COMPETITON

The culmination of our tute versus tute competition happened on Tuesday the 28th of August with B7 playing B5 in the GF in the hall. After a slow start B5 gradually took control and ran out comfortable winners. B5 will be crowned Dodgeball champions at our next assembly

RAY WHITE CHARITY BALL

On Saturday the 25th of August nine of our Belfast students helped with serving food during the Ray White ball at the Emmanuel Centre. As recognition for their efforts the organisers presented our students with a cheque for $1000 which we then passed on to the ‘Lookout’ project organisers, one of the two foundations that Belfast raise money for. After the event the caterers rang Mr Dowie personally and said how brilliant our student helpers were and how this reflected so well on our house and school.

Finally a reminder to all students that footballs and Basketballs are available for sale at the Belfast office for $5 each with all money going to Oxfam and the Lookout project.

BE BOLD, BE BRAVE, BE BELFAST!!!

Childers

It has been a HUGE term for Childers, with lots of achievements to celebrate! First off, in the mid-semester break our very own Jay Rantall competed in an international basketball competition in Argentina, representing Australia. It was a stellar effort on behalf of this young achiever! Congratulations Jay!

The Legacy Public Speaking competition was also held this term, with students Taz Reuel and Laura Lee competing. Both girls put in a fantastic effort, with Taz making it through to the next round! We wish her luck!

The college musical, Strictly Ballroom, also took place this term, with a high number of Childers students involved! The students, staff and parents involved worked exceptionally hard and we would like to extend our sincerest congratulations on the success of the show – a testament to your efforts and talents!

On the 24th of August, Daffodil Day, students dressed in their best “Tradie” attire as Childers held their philanthropic fundraiser day. We upheld many old and new traditions to raise money and awareness for cancer and cancer research, such as the annual spaghetti eating competition and bake-sale. We would like to extend a huge thank you to the parents and friends of Childers who contributed baked good for the students to sell, this aspect of the fundraiser was a tremendous (and delicious!) success! Four exceptional students went an extra step donating some of their hair to charity. The donations of plaited hair will be sent to the Variety Club where they will arrange for it to be treated and made into wigs for people undertaking cancer treatment or suffer from alopecia. Well done Taliyah, Tarliah, Jacqui and Jaz for their 35cm commitments to our Daffodil Day efforts. There will be a day later in the year when another hair-raising event will take place. So keep growing your hair! There is word our first boy will be donating hair soon…

A big congratulations and thank you to the student leaders and Mr Dart for all of their efforts on Daffodil Day, and thank you to the Warrnambool College community for supporting such a great cause.
