Greater Western Region Athletics

On Thursday the 6th of October, a group of 60 Trinity College students travelled to Llanberris Athletics Track in Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region Athletics after they advanced through the Coastal Division earlier in Term 3.

The rain held off for what would make for a fantastic day as each and every student competed extremely hard in their events and didn’t hesitate to help out when asked.

This great attitude towards the day saw Trinity come home with a number of medals and a small group of students who will advance through to the state finals after winning their event.

Netballers among the best in the State

Throughout the year our Trinity netball teams participate in two competitions. The School Sport Victoria Netball Competition and The Victorian Netball Championships. In both tournaments our teams attend preliminary round days and must finish on top of the ladder on each of these days to progress through to the next stages with the final stage being the State Finals days.

Intermediate Girls Netball

Our Intermediate Girls had a very successful school netball season and progressed through to the State Finals in both of the competitions.

On Tuesday, August 30 the girls competed in the Victorian Netball State Finals at the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville. They were scheduled to play 5 games and started the day well winning their first 2 games against Kilbreda College and Aquinas College. The third game of the day saw Luther College defeat Trinity with a goal in the last minute of the game. The Trinity girls regrouped and won games 4 and 5 in hard fought wins against Loreto and Our Lady of Mercy. The Trinity girls finished the rounds on top of the ladder, which progressed them through to the Semi Finals.

Trinity played Catholic College Sale in the Semi-final and although nerves impacted the girls in the first few minutes, they settled well and the game showcased an elite level of netball by both teams.

Catholic College went on to win this game, but the standard of netball produced left our Trinity girls very proud to finish as one of the top 4 teams in the state.

On Monday, September 5, the Inter girls travelled to Waverly Netball Centre to compete in the School Sport Victoria State Finals. They played 4 x 28min games, winning their first against McKinnon SC by 1, before losing their second to Viewbank College by the same margin.

Trinity beat Bass Coast College 29-19 and finished the rounds on top of the ladder in their pool, again progressing them through to the semi-finals.

Trinity played Catholic College Wodonga in the semi and unfortunately after a hard-fought game they were defeated 28-22.

This intermediate netball side is one of the most talented netball teams we have had representing our school. Not only do they all have elite skills individually, but their commitment to work hard for each other, courage to never give up and the support they show one another is something our school community can be incredibly proud of. Well done to all of the girls that were a part of this team throughout the year.

Year 8 Girls Netball

On Thursday, September 8 our Year 8 girls travelled to the State Netball and Hockey Centre in Parkville to compete in the Victorian Netball Championships State Finals.

The girls were scheduled to play 5 games and they started the day with a strong 17-4 win over Beaconhills College.

Next, they faced Luther College who they beat 7-5 and then they won a hard-fought game against Catherine McAuley College by 1 goal.

In round 4 the Trinity girls held on to an early lead to win against St Francis Xavier College and then went on to beat Clonard College in the last round resulting in them being undefeated and finishing on top of the ladder, which moved them through to the semi-final.

In the semi final the girls played against the Catherine McAuley A side and Trinity were in control in the first half, getting to half time with a 3-goal lead. Unfortunately, the nerves got the better of the girls in the second half and Catherine McAuley ended up winning 11-7. We are extremely proud of this group of girls finishing in the top 4 Junior Teams in Victoria. Throughout every tournament they produced great netball, supported one another and were excellent representatives for themselves, our school and their families. Well done girls!
