Alessia McCaig (12 Jenkin)

Congratulations to Alessia McCaig who came away with three gold medals for cycling in December at the Track National Championships.  Alessia raced in the 500m Time Trial, Keirin & Sprints winning all and taking the gold medal in U19 women’s category.  

 

Alessia also set an Australian record for the 500m Time Trial with a time of 34.816 seconds taking the 12 year held record of 35.1.

 

In her flying 200m (for the sprints) she set a new Championship record & All Comers record (record for any person Aust or not) with a time of 11.354 seconds missing the Australian record by .04 seconds

 

Serryn Eenjes (12 Jones)

Congratulations to Serryn Eenjes, who has been selected for the Bendigo Pioneers U19 Australian Rules Football Team.  The Bendigo Pioneers is the elite team for girls ranging from Kyneton to Mildura and a potential pathway to the women’s AFL. Serryn has made the final list of 30 players and will compete in the NAB League girls season, which begins on February 6 against the Murray Bushrangers. Well done, Serryn!

 

Sam Wardrop (11 Aherne)

Congratulations to Sam Wardrop who had a successful day at the recent Victorian Sprint and Short Course Marathon Paddling Championships at Lake Nagambie.

 

Sam received a Gold medal in the K1 Men’s Under 18 200m race and also in the K2 Mixed Under 18 200m race. Two other races saw Sam receive silver medals – K1 Men’s Under 18 500m and K1 Men’s Under 18 short course marathon.

 

Four Girton Students Selected for the Greater Bendigo Youth Councillors

Congratulations to Zahra Chowdhury (11 Frew), Ildi Clemens (11 Millward), Julius Krelle (10 Millward) who have been appointed a Greater Bendigo Youth Councillors for the City of Greater Bendigo Council and to Remus Brasier (10 Millward) who has been selected for a second year.  The Youth Council act as an advisory and advocacy body to Council and gives local young people a stronger voice in the community.  The new council of teenagers and young adults have committed to thinking globally and acting locally, setting their sights on issues like climate change, the pandemic recovery, regional liveability and economic sustainability.

 

Sarah Radford (9 Riley)

Congratulations to Sarah Radford who recently became the first player to achieve an astounding 300 games with the Girton Basketball Club.

 

Sarah played her 300th game as a member of the Under 18 Girton Crystals, having started with Girton Basketball Club in the Under 10’s in the Summer season of 2013/2014.

Well done, Sarah, on an exceptional contribution to the Girton Basketball Club.

 

Rory Scholes (8 Millward) and Hunter Scholes (7 Millward)

Congratulations Rory and Hunter Scholes who spoke about growing up in the country at their local Australia Day ceremony in Eddington.
