Playspace Opening

On Monday, we held a special occasion to formally bless and open our brand new Playspace.

This project was completed in just one month. To me, this was almost a miracle. It was a big project, at $228,000, and very complex and challenging. There were a lot of broken concrete slabs to be removed, a lot of concrete curbing, a lot of tangled tree roots and a number of patches of grass. There was a set of stage steps made up of rotting wood and broken bricks to be removed and a whole new structure built. New carpark area to be concreted and a large amount of asphalt to be laid. Plus the actual playspace to be installed.

Massive thanks to Creo and to Project Manager Keith Gordon for achieving all this with a minimal amount of disruption. I give Keith and Creo my highest recommendation.

We began the occasion with a blessing of the playspace by Matua Aaron McGreal. This was meaningful and special.

To follow, our oldest student - Alfie Webb - was joined by our youngest student - Violet Webb - to pull undone the beautiful purple ribbon. Alfie and Violet are not brother and sister, by the way.

This undoing was the signal for our Board Chair, Nic Yelash, to declare our new playspace open and to join our two Grand Opener children on the playspace.

At morning interval our year one and two students had their first turn at enjoying the playspace. From then on, it has been open to all.

Even our teachers have squeezed in a turn.
