Take note

2021 yearbook makes a splash!

Keep your eyes peeled for the 2021 Santa Maria yearbooks, which are landing in schoolbags this week! The yearbooks are being distributed to the oldest Kinder to Year 9 student in each family.

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 will receive their copy at the Senior School Prize Giving tomorrow evening (Thursday 9 December).

This year's publication features cover artwork by the very talented Adele Harman (Year 11). Congratulations, Adele!

Parents and carers can purchase additional copies of the Santa Maria for $20 from the College Business Office.

Prize Giving

All members of our College community are warmly welcome to attend the Senior School Prize Giving, which will be held tomorrow evening (Thursday 9 December) in the Tasman Room, Wrest Point.

A reminder to all families that you do not need to register to attend and tickets are not required.

All guests will, however, need to sign in using the Check In TAS app when entering the venue.

Please remember to bring along a face mask in the event that you will need to wear it, should guest numbers exceed 1,000 people.

Please arrive by 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. The event is expected to finish around 9.30pm–10.00pm, so be sure to fuel up beforehand!

Presentation Families

Save the date and volunteer

It might feel a bit overwhelming to think of the 2022 school year already, but please make a note on the calendar that our Presentation Families Welcome BBQ will take place on Wednesday 16 February. All families (not just those that are new to the College) are warmly invited to attend. We’ll need some helpers to feed all of our hungry guests, of course, so please send us an email if you can help on the BBQs for half an hour: communications@smc.tas.edu.au.

Be a buddy to a new SMC family

Can you remember what it was like being new to the St Mary’s College community? Would it have been handy to have a fairy godmother tell you where to find the best parking spots at school pick-up time or figure out where to find second hand uniform items? If you would like to volunteer to be a ‘buddy’ or make a ‘welcome’ phone call to the family of a new student starting in your child’s class next year, please let us know. As a Catholic school in the Presentation tradition, hospitality and making everyone feel welcome is an important part of our ethos.

Thank you

Finally, thank you to all of our wonderful parents and carers who assisted at Presentation Family events this year. To everyone who helped out on the BBQs at the Families on the Green welcome event, the Mother’s Day breakfast and Father’s Day breakfast or attended our meetings during the year and offered your suggestions – we are incredibly grateful.

See you in the new year!

Pastoral care 2022

We'd like to remind our Senior School families of some changes to the way Homerooms will be structured in 2022.

Students in Years 9 to 12 will remain in vertical Homerooms to continue the bonds that have already formed and to provide a differentiated approach to pastoral care in their College years.

Students in Years 7 and 8, however, will be organised in year-level Homerooms by House.

Students in Year 7 and 8 will also have separate Core groups for classes, allowing students to encounter wider opportunities to form relationships both in pastoral care and learning groups.

If you have any queries about the Homeroom structure for 2022, please contact Director of Senior School, Andrew Clarke
