In the Classroom with

Ms Kerry Howard
What is one of your hidden talents?
I try not to keep my talents hidden.
What makes a ‘great’ day at school?
When a student “gets it” and smiles as they realize that yes – they do understand!
Your dream vacation would be?
Anywhere in Asia where I can hike through a jungle. I love adventure and a challenge. I have traveled through Africa and Asia.
What inspires you?
My children. They went to our local government school and are now talented musicians as well as brilliant in their chosen fields of work – one an economist and the other a science teacher. Every day I work with young people I think about the opportunities they have to achieve their dreams
What would students be surprised to find out about you?
In 1980 I was the tennis coach at a Camps America Summer Camp in New York.
If you could pass on any wisdom to your students, what would you share?
Never say never….
What is your favorite subject to teach? Geography! I love the opportunity to get out in the field and make observations. It has given me the chance to explore forests, deserts, beaches and cities.
The best thing about being a teacher at the College? Every day brings new understandings about young people – and it helps me to feel young – even if I am a bit older than most teachers.
