Principal's Report
What a week of celebration!
Last week was truly a magnificent week of celebration here at Kurunjang SC.
Combined, we have had well over 1000 members of our school community attend our three celebration events that we offered; the WEC VET Awards on the Tuesday, the Year 12 Valedictory Celebration on the Wednesday, and it all concluded with Thursday’s wonderful Rock Band Music Concert.
Last week’s events have once again reinforced to me, and the college, how willing our families and community are in supporting positive and enjoyable events and celebrations which showcase the work of our talented students.
Research is very clear as to the significance of celebrating success in everything that we do in life. In schools, and at Kurunjang SC in particular, it is critically important that we celebrate and recognise the outstanding events that students accomplish, both inside and outside of the college. Watching students grow and realise their goals is one of the key reasons many of the staff of the college began working in education, myself included. The recognition of students fosters strong relationships among students, families, the college, and the community and creates a positive school culture where students feel valued. We as a school intend to not only continue what we have offered previously but also add new events that demonstrate the multitude of talents that our students have.
These three nights, could not possibly have occurred without the hard work and organisation of the staff of the college and of the students themselves.
A huge thank you to the students. Once again I want to say that even after many years of working in schools, I continue to be astounded by the incredible talents and skills of our students. All of us who attended enjoyed the nights immensely.
I would also like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate all our students who received awards at both the WEC VET Award Night and the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner.
Our congratulations go to Talia Gillett who received the Principal VET/School Award for 2018. Our VET Award students can be found on our VET Awards page of this newsletter.
A big thank you also to the Kurunjang SC staff who supported all of these events. On Wednesday night, in particular, we had over 50 staff attend the evening which was noted by the Year 12 Captains who came over to thank me on the behalf of the Class of 2017.
Specifically, I will also like to take this opportunity to thank the staff who organised these events.
Well done to:
· Rose Lewanski and to her team of Kellie Radecki, Marie Baker and Sue Somerton who organised the WEC VET awards.
· Kelsey Ryan, Carmela Sant, Marie Baker, Dean Cove and Aylin Gӧkmen for the outstanding success of the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner.
· To Jo Zerafa, Joe Costa, Mark Zerafa and to Earl Leonard who together with approximately 80 of our wonderful Music students produced a rock concert full of talent, energy and vitality. It was great night. Well done.
Thank you to all who attended the events of last week. The willingness of all of the school community to continue supporting our students is greatly appreciated by the school, the staff, and in particular the students.
For those of you who were not able to join us, I hope to see you at our next event, the College’s Awards Night on the evening of Thursday 14th December. All the details are available on the college website.
I look forward to seeing you then.
