Living at Lockington

Football Stars

This year was the fourth year of the MITS association with Richmond Junior Football Club and by far the most successful. For the first time all 22 students registered in a team and all students completed the full season. For most of the MITS crew this was their first time playing a full season of AFL. Every single student should be extremely proud of the way they conducted themselves at training and in matches throughout the season. Below is a brief summary of the teams our students played in.

U/12 Boys– Marley and Cliffton were instrumental in this team making a Preliminary final. Marley grew in confidence as the year progressed as a key position player. Cliffton was a dominant on baller who polled 11 votes in the vote count to be judged fifth best in the league by the umpires.

U/13 Boys– Sam, Max, Kurt, Adam, Antwan and Paul were great team players who helped their side reach the finals. All six boys played key roles in various positions throughout the year. Many highlights included snap goals, big tackles and thumping kicks.

U/15 Boys– Antonio, Bruce and Isaiah played up an age group this year and showed great courage against bigger bodies every week. Bruce found his spot on the wing, Antonio kicked some nice goals and Isaiah was not afraid to tackle the big boys or step them with his pace.

U/13 Girls Black– Marcia, Serena, Pauline, Rumarlea and Rhiannon played a wonderful season together. They all improved each week and Marcia was equal 8thbest player in the league vote count! Serena was chosen to represent the YJFL and Pauline kicked some great goals. Rhiannon and Rumarlea grew in confidence and were important players for their team every week.

U/13 Girls Yellow– Moniquah, Ruby, Debbie, Shakira and Tatiana were part of a special year in which their team made the Grand Final. Highlights for the season included Ruby’s ferocious tackling, Shakira’s booming kicks, Moni’s 35 + goals for the season, Tatiana’s marking and ball control and Debbie’s 8thplace in the league vote count as a rebounding backline player. All girls should be thrilled of their achievements and wear their runner’s up medals with pride.

U/14 Girls– Naomi (alumni) and Latisha also made the Grand Final and enjoyed a successful season. Naomi won the league Best and Fairest and Latisha showed determination and skill each week whether playing in defence or attack.

U/15 Girls– Latoya (alumni) re-joined RJFC and had a great season helping her team reach the Preliminary final. Her determination and attack on the football resulting in more than one trip to the doctor!

All students should be extremely proud of themselves, thanks to all the volunteers, RJFC parents and MITS staff who have helped transport the students to their matches each week!
