McClelland College Record Breaking VCE Results

Congratulations to our Class of 2022 on their outstanding VCE results for 2022! For the first time in over a decade, the school cracked the elusive 30 median Study Score, placing us above the state median. Taking into account the challenges of remote learning over the last two years, this is a momentous achievement!

Our 2022 Dux is Rachel Huynh with an ATAR of 97.7, achieving scores in three subjects above 40! Rachel also received the VCE Baccalaureate for achieving a score of 36 for EAL, a 36 for Japanese, as well as a 40 and 35 for Math Methods and Specialist respectively. Congratulations Rachel!

Amazingly, McClelland had another three students achieve ATARs in the 90s, with Aaron Stevenson (96.05), Sanjana Ajjampur (95.75) and Al Davies (91.9) being rewarded for their hard work. Al and Sanjana also received the VCE Baccalaureate for their completion of both Japanese and Math Methods. Congratulations to the three of you!

As previously mentioned, our School Median Study Score was 30 for the first time in more than a decade, building on our amazing results from the last three years. This score of 30 puts us in the top three amongst state schools on the Peninsula, an outstanding achievement for the entire McClelland community!

Further to this, we had a record 49% of students achieving an ATAR above 70, meaning that they will have the first choice of numerous university courses open to them! Additionally, 4.8% of Study Scores were above 40, placing those students in the top 8% of the state.

In early 2020, the College received a letter from a local solicitor in regards to a person who had passed away. This person’s name was Mr Lawrence (Lawrie) Esson. After Mr Esson’s passing he left a number of gifts to schools and organisations in our local area. As a result of this, Mr Esson has left a substantial amount of money to our college.

His wishes were to establish a trust fund called the “Lawrie Esson Bursary” which will distribute six scholarships each year, valued at $1000 each, to our top six VCE ATAR scorers who attend University. These funds are designed to assist our students with the costs associated with undertaking their tertiary education.

This is an incredible gesture and will have a profound impact in supporting our students with further studies.

We take great pleasure in being able to support Mr Esson’s wishes and the invaluable support these funds will provide to our students over many years to come.

The Lawrie Esson Bursary was presented to the following students:

With an ATAR of 85.05 - Kathryn Pearson. Kathryn had an outstanding year across the board, achieving the top mark in both Further Maths and Food. Kathryn intends on studying Wildlife and Conservation Biology as a part of a Science degree, but not before having a well earned gap year to travel Europe. Congratulations Kathryn.

With an ATAR of 89.5 - Cai Venn. Cai was one of our College Vice Captains for 2022, participating in a wide range of house and staff vs student events. She achieved outstanding grades across the board, was awarded College Valedictorian for 2022, and similar to Kathryn is looking to have a gap year in 2023 to travel Europe, before studying an Arts degree at either Monash or Melbourne. Congratulations Cai.

With an ATAR of 91.9 - Al Davies. Al achieved a momentous feat this year by achieving the highest Study Score at the College for 2022 with a 44 for English. He was also a recipient of a VCE Baccalaureate award for his results in both Maths and Japanese. Al has a number of interests at university next year, including Science, Engineering and Computer Science. We look forward to seeing what he achieves in 2023 and beyond! Congratulations Al!

With an ATAR of 95.75 - Sanjana Ajjampur. Sanjana has had an outstanding time at McClelland, as the youngest student to complete a Unit 3 / 4 sequence in 2019 as a Year 9 student. This year, she completed both a University Enhancement subject through La Trobe University, as well as achieving the VCE Baccalaureate for her results in English, Japanese and Maths. In 2023, Sanjana intends to study Biomedical Science as a pathway into becoming a doctor in the future. A very worthy career choice I am sure we can all agree! Congratulations Sanjana!

With an ATAR of 96.05 - Aaron Stevenson. Aaron achieved the second highest ATAR at McClelland College for 2022, an amazing achievement and testament to the hard work and preparation he put in over the course of the year. He was a regular at Homework Club after school,where he could often be seen locked in debate with his Physics and Specialist teacher Mr Joy. In 2023, Aaron hopes to study either Science Advanced Research at Monash or a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne. Well done on an amazing year Aaron!

And our DUX for 2022, with Study Scores of 35 in Specialist Maths, 36 in EAL, 36 in Japanese, 40 in Math Methods, 42 in Chemistry and 46 in Further Maths, culminating in an ATAR of 97.7 is Rachel Huynh, who hopes to follow her dreams and utilise her skill set by completing a degree in Actuary studies in Sydney, where her family will be relocating over the coming months. Congratulations once again Rachel!
