In Mathematics, we will continue to interleave all five strands of the new Victorian Curriculum. These are Number (including Counting, Place Value, Additive and Multiplicative thinking), Algebra, Measurement, Space and Statistics).
This will include a focus on:
- Deepening students’ understanding of and fluency with numbers up to 120 and beyond.
- Counting forwards and backwards from any number.
- Skip counting by 10s, 5s and 2s from 0 and other starting numbers.
- Making, counting, naming and ordering numbers within collections using place value language (ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands).
- Partitioning numbers according to their digits and place values.
- Linking place value to the performance of addition and subtraction operations.
- Recognising Australian coins and notes and ordering money according to value.
- Representing data by creating graphs, then describing and interpreting that information.
- Using informal units to measure and compare objects’ length and mass.
- Investigating the names and properties of 2D shapes and 3D objects.
