Principal's Report

School Council AGM

Last night we had both the AGM and March meetings, which were the first meetings for new members, those being Jacinda Saunders, Jonathon Everard and Charlotte Cannan.  At the AGM Kylie Bickerdike was elected as president and we know Kylie will do an excellent job.  We thank Graeme for being president for a number of years and he now serves as vice president.

Once again, we have a great group of people on School Council, both parents and staff, and we look forward to another strong year of leadership and governance for our school.

Industrial Action

Thanks again to everyone for your patience and understanding with disruptions today resulting from industrial action.  We’re certainly hoping that good progress is made with negotiations and that further industrial action is prevented.

Concert Preparation

As most would be aware we have a concert to look forward to later in the year (August 26-28).  At this early stage we are working towards the selection of a theme.  Staff have had the opportunity to submit suggestions, but we also wanted to give the kids an opportunity to come up with ideas through the VOTS Team.  VOTS members clearly had good discussions at class level, resulting in an impressive list of suggestions.

That list, along with staff submissions will now go to our concert team who have the responsibility of selecting a theme. That decision will be made and announced early next term.

The concert is a fabulous experience for the kids, but also a brilliant school and community event.  Pulling off a successful concert is a team effort and presents as an opportunity for interested parents to get on board and help out in a variety of ways.

This might involve making costumes, working with your child’s teacher to develop or choreograph acts or supporting practice sessions.  On concert days, we’ll have quite a few parents doing a range of things, including helping to supervise students, taking tickets at the door, guiding patrons or helping back of stage.

If you are interested in being part of our concert team, please get in touch. That group is made up of staff and parents (usually about 6-8 members) that will come together regularly during the second half of term 2 and early term 3 to coordinate the event.
