Term 4 - Ms Wells

This term started with a few changes to the entry and exit routines in Class. We aim to create a calm, purposeful start and end to each lesson to maximise learning experiences and create consistency. Students have been receptive to the changes, and we will work for the rest of the term embedding this new practice into our routines.

This term most students have two assessments to complete for each subject. It is important that students keep attending classes so that they are fully prepared for the assessments. The final assessments will be mostly in Week 6 – the final week of term.

Good luck to our Year 12 ATAR students who are sitting their WACE exams soon. They have been busy studying and completing past papers with the ATAR staff in preparation. We are very proud of them and wish them all the best.

Finally, we are excited to announce that the new science classroom has been signed off and will be ready for use this week.

A Positive Start to Term 4 in the Class area - Mr Maddy

Term 4 is underway, and students and staff have returned to the classroom with a renewed focus on learning, engagement and finishing the academic year strongly. With the final term always being a busy one, we are working to ensure students remain motivated and make the most of their remaining time in the classroom.

One of our key focuses this term is reducing unnecessary screen time and encouraging more active participation in lessons. While technology continues to play an important role in education, we are looking at ways to ensure it is used purposefully rather than becoming the default approach to learning. Across learning areas, this includes a greater emphasis on face-to-face discussion, collaborative activities, handwritten work, practical tasks and opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding without relying on a device.

Another important priority is maintaining strong engagement among our Year 11 students as they approach the end of their academic year. We are placing particular emphasis on keeping lessons structured, interactive and relevant, encouraging students to take greater responsibility for their learning and to remain focused through the final weeks of the term.

In the Mathematics classroom, students have been busy tackling a range of topics with practical applications beyond the classroom. Our Year 12 ATAR Mathematics Applications students are in the final stages of preparation for their WACE examinations, consolidating their knowledge and sharpening their examination techniques after a busy year of learning.

Meanwhile, Year 11 ATAR students have been exploring trigonometry, developing skills in calculating unknown distances, angles and heights. These concepts have important real-world applications, particularly in agriculture, where they can be used in surveying land, measuring slopes and calculating distances across paddocks.

Our Year 11 General Mathematics students have been investigating scales, mapping and shortest-route problems. Students are learning how mathematical thinking can help solve everyday challenges, from interpreting maps and planning efficient travel routes to calculating real distances and exploring the most practical ways to move around a farm or agricultural property.

With assessments, revision and examinations approaching, we look forward to supporting students through a productive and successful conclusion to the school year.
