Positions to Fill

Did you forget to sign up for summer sport?  We still have spots in basketball and tennis for this season. Come and see me at my office if you are keen to join.

If you are unsure about a sport, you are welcome to come and do a training trial to see how you like it.

Uniforms

A number of students have not picked up their uniforms from the Uniform Shop for the summer season. All students are required to only wear BMGS gear both on and off the field/court.

Summer Sport

Basketball

Last week marked the opening round of the ISA Summer Basketball competition, with BMGS enjoying a fantastic start to the season, securing six wins from eight games.

Both First teams faced tough opposition, with the First V Girls narrowly missing out in a close contest, while the First V Boys went down to St Greg’s. Despite the result, there is plenty of optimism ahead of the return fixture, with the boys keen to take another shot at their opponents.

Congratulations to all our teams on a strong opening round. I look forward to seeing the competition unfold over the coming weeks.

Touch Football

This weekend sees the start of the ISA Touch Football competition. We wish all our BMGS teams the very best as they take to the field for their opening games.

Remember, if you have done something great in sport drop me an email mharris@bmgs.nsw.edu.au

Basketball Report Round 1

Summer 2026/27

Girls Basketball

First V

The First V Girls had a closely contested game against Chevalier, holding the lead for the majority of the match. The second half was neck and neck, with Chevalier making a late comeback to take the lead and secure a narrow one-point victory. Maggie Martin had an outstanding game, particularly in attack, while Poppy Peterson worked tirelessly in defence to shut down Chevalier’s key tall player, helping to keep the score tight. Despite the disappointing result, the girls showed great determination and fought hard throughout the game. I look forward to seeing the team build on this performance in their next match.

Open B

The Open B Girls played their first game of the season against Barker 5, bringing home a strong win, 21-4, with just six players. Despite the limited bench, all the girls had a strong game and showed great determination and teamwork throughout.

The team experimented with a few different attacking moves, and it was fantastic to see their persistence pay off. In the final five minutes, two well-executed moves resulted in baskets, providing a rewarding finish to the game and highlighting the potential of the team as they continue to develop their combinations and confidence.

Next week’s match against CCGS will be a good challenge and an opportunity for the girls to gauge how they measure up against strong opposition as the season progresses. We look forward to seeing them build on this encouraging start!

Junior A

The Junior A Girls made an excellent start to the ISA season with a convincing 56–32 win over SACS. The girls played a controlled and composed game, demonstrating excellent teamwork and strong defensive pressure throughout. Their skilled play and positive attitude did not go unnoticed, with both the referees and opposing coach commending the team on their sportsmanship and performance. Well done to the entire team on a fantastic start to the season! This combination of skill, teamwork and respect for their opponents bodes well for a successful season ahead.

Boys Basketball

First V

The Firsts made an excellent start against St Greg’s, with high-energy defence and strong communication setting the tone in the opening quarter. While our intensity dropped at times and turnovers proved costly, there were encouraging signs throughout the game. The boys showed great potential, and we are excited to build on these early foundations as the team continues to develop and build consistency across all four quarters.

17 Years

The Under 17s got their season off to a fantastic start, coming away with a well-deserved first win against St Greg’s. With only two training sessions under their belts leading into the games, the boys performed exceptionally well. Their hard work on both ends of the floor resulted in a convincing victory and provided a great foundation to build on for the season ahead.

15 Years

The U15s made an impressive start to their season with a convincing 42–22 victory against a very physical opposition. The team showed great composure and discipline throughout the game, maintaining their focus and sticking to their game plan rather than getting caught up in the physicality of the contest.

Strong offensive rebounding and excellent ball movement were highlights of the team’s performance. The players worked hard for one another and showed maturity in the way they approached the contest.

Congratulations to the U15s on a strong start to the season.

14 Years

The 14’s got their season off to a fantastic start with a 38–30 victory in their opening game. The team showed great teamwork and determination, working hard at both ends of the court. Strong ball pressure and disciplined man-to-man defence were key features of their performance. The team’s defensive intensity helped force turnovers at crucial moments and limit St Gregory’s scoring opportunities in the closing stages of the game.

Congratulations to all players on a terrific performance!

13 Years

The 13 Years Boys started their season with a strong team performance, securing a nine-point victory in their opening game. It was an encouraging first outing, with all players contributing well and showing plenty of enthusiasm and teamwork on the court.

Offensively, the boys worked well together, moving the ball effectively and creating opportunities to score. Defensively, there were some positive moments, although the team will continue to focus on communication and remembering their defensive match-ups as the season progresses.

Overall, it was a promising start, with plenty of positive plays to build on. Congratulations to all the boys on a great first game, and I look forward to seeing your continued improvement throughout the season.
