Head of  Senior School

Welcome to Term 4

I hope all our Senior School families enjoyed a restful and refreshing holiday break and that our students have returned ready for a busy, productive and rewarding final term of the year.

Term 4 is always a particularly exciting time at Blue Mountains Grammar School. It is a term filled with opportunities for students to challenge themselves, celebrate their achievements and finish the year on a positive note. With a full calendar of academic, sporting, cultural and co-curricular activities ahead, there is certainly much to look forward to.

Celebrating our Year 12 Students

As we begin the term, our thoughts are particularly with the Class of 2026, who have now commenced their HSC examinations. It was wonderful to celebrate this exceptional group of young people at the end of last term through their farewell activities, Valedictory Assembly and Valedictory Dinner. These occasions provided an opportunity to reflect on their journeys, acknowledge their contributions to our school community and celebrate the friendships and memories they have made along the way.

We are incredibly proud of the way our Year 12 students have approached their final year, and we wish them every success as they complete their examinations. I encourage our entire school community to keep them in their thoughts over the coming weeks.

A Wonderful Walkathon Achievement!

Huge congratulations go to our Year 10 students and Mrs Catherine Tierney for the outstanding organisation and smooth running of our recent Walking 9 to 5 Walkathon.

This was a fantastic example of our school community coming together, with an incredible 690 laps completed, covering approximately 1,100 kilometres throughout the day!

I would particularly like to acknowledge the leadership, enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by our Year 10 students, who played such an important role in making the event a success. Their willingness to take responsibility, work collaboratively and contribute positively to school life was wonderful to see.

A very special thank you to Mrs Tierney for the enormous amount of planning, coordination and energy that went into bringing this event together. Her dedication ensured that the day ran smoothly and was such an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Events such as these highlight the generosity of spirit, teamwork and community-mindedness that make BMGS such a special place.

Looking Ahead to a Busy Term

For our students in Years 7-11, Term 4 provides an important opportunity to consolidate learning, maintain strong academic habits and continue striving for personal excellence.

There are many exciting events on the horizon, including our Year 9 and Year 10 camps, the Year 10 Transition Program, sporting competitions, performances and end-of-year celebrations. These experiences are an important part of life at BMGS, allowing students to develop confidence, independence, resilience and stronger connections with their peers.

For our Year 11 students, this term marks the beginning of their HSC journey as they step into their final year of schooling. It is an exciting milestone, and we look forward to supporting them as they embrace the increased responsibilities and opportunities that come with being our senior students.

Finishing the Year Strongly

As we move through the final term, I encourage all students to remain focused on the values and expectations that underpin our Senior School community. Consistent effort, respectful behaviour, punctuality, pride in personal presentation and a willingness to contribute positively to school life are all essential.

While the end of the year can bring excitement and anticipation, it is important that students continue to approach their learning and school commitments with enthusiasm and purpose. I encourage families to support their children in maintaining positive routines and a healthy balance between academic responsibilities, co-curricular involvement and wellbeing.

A Strong Sense of Community

One of the great strengths of Blue Mountains Grammar School is the genuine sense of community that exists between our students, staff and families. This was particularly evident during our recent Chaplain Commissioning Service, when we came together to mark an important occasion in the life of our school.

Student Leadership Induction Service – St Andrew's Cathedral

On Thursday 22 October, our newly appointed student leaders had the privilege of attending the Annual Prefects' Commissioning Service at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney, joining student leaders from Anglican schools across the Diocese.

The service, hosted by the Archbishop of Sydney, The Most Reverend Kanishka Raffel, was a wonderful opportunity for our students to reflect on the responsibilities and privileges that come with leadership. A central message of the service was the importance of servant leadership - leading with humility, integrity, courage and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of others.

Following the service, students enjoyed morning tea and had the opportunity to meet the Archbishop and participate in a question-and-answer session exploring the challenges and opportunities of leadership.

We are incredibly proud of our student leaders for representing Blue Mountains Grammar School on this special occasion. As they begin their leadership journey, we encourage them to embrace the opportunities ahead, lead by example and make a positive difference within our school community.

We look forward to seeing the contributions they will make throughout 2027 and wish them every success as they take on these important responsibilities.

I would like to thank our dedicated staff for the care, energy and commitment they bring to supporting our students each day. I also extend my appreciation to our parents and carers for their continued partnership and support.

As we look towards the final weeks of 2026, I encourage every student to make the most of the opportunities ahead, celebrate the successes of others and finish the year knowing they have given their best.

I look forward to another wonderful term in the Senior School and to celebrating the many achievements of our students in the weeks ahead.

Warm regards,
