Term 1, Week 8 - Friday 22nd March, 2024

Dear Families of OLSC

It is hard to believe that we are almost finished Term 1.  Thanks everyone for a great and very busy term.

Wedding Bells at OLSC

Congratulations Beth and Chris

Last weekend Beth and Chris celebrated their wedding. By all accounts the day was perfect and a great celebration.  Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Burgess from all of us here at OLSC!

The Next Wedding Count Down Has Begun

Bianca and Mark are counting down the days until they tie the knot.  They will celebrate their wedding in the school holidays.  I am sure you all join me in wishing them both well on their big day.

Cyber Safety

We have recently partnered with Inform and Empower to work with us on Cyber Safety. The team worked with the staff this week and will join the students across the school each term in, the area of Cyber Safety.

On the 21st May, there will be a parent forum (online) around Cyber Safety.  I strongly urge all parents to join this opportunity.

More information will be communicated next term.

Carpark and Traffic

I ask that parents fill the school car park before lining up in the entranceway.  Many families have expressed their frustration at not being able to access an almost empty school car park because of the driveway being blocked.

Can I remind all families using the school car park and surrounding streets to be mindful of road laws and that the safety of students and pedestrians is paramount?

Easter Raffle Drawing

Thank you for your support of this year's Easter Raffle.  The donations and ticket sales have been great and I truly thank everyone for their generosity on behalf of the Parents and Friends group.

Reconciliation

On Wednesday 20th March students from Yr 3 celebrated the sacrament of reconciliation. The evening was planned by John and supported by the 3/4 staff.  Our 3 Priests were complimentary of the students and the reverence of the event.  Well done to John and the LC4 team for preparing this celebration.

Community Mass

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our second community mass.  Morning tea followed the mass that was also well patronised.  Let's keep the momentum going and make our 3rd community mass just as successful and special.  Our next community mass is Sunday 21st April.

School Tours and Prep 2025 Cohort.

The month of March marks the opening of enrolments for Prep 2025.  If you have a child attending 4 year old kindergarten please contact the office or complete an enrolment enquiry form (available on our website).

We are also conducting school tours each Monday at 9:30am and Thursday 2:30pm if any families know of potential families that are interested in joining OLSC.

School Advisory Council (Repeated item from last newsletter)

Expressions of Interest

It is a requirement of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Ltd (MACS) board, our governing body, that all catholic schools have a School Advisory Council (SAC).  The School Advisory Council to support the Principal, Parish Priest and leadership team of the school and to offer perspectives on matters that school staff and leaders may not have considered.  We are currently looking for members of our school community to join our SAC.  No particular expertise is required except a desire to represent and give voice to the parent body in advising the principal about matters particularly related to the school’s ongoing desire to provide the best possible education for the OLSC children.

If you are a member of the parish or have children in the school, and wish to be part of the SAC in our school, we would welcome your expression of interest via email to Justin Hilton by Friday 22nd March, 2024.

Your expression of interest should be emailed to jhilton@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au

Staff at Work or Play

A number of staff gathered for a social event after school & let their creative juices flow. After lots of frustration, laughter & persistence beach scenes did emerge. Check out their efforts.
