Celebrating the Feast of Saint Padre Pio
Yesterday, the Church community joined Catholics around the world in celebrating the Feast Day of Saint Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, one of the most beloved and revered saints of the modern era.
Born Francesco Forgione in Italy in 1887, Padre Pio was a Capuchin friar renowned for his profound prayer life, deep humility, and extraordinary spiritual gifts, including bearing the stigmata. He dedicated his life to serving others, spending countless hours in the confessional, offering spiritual guidance, and demonstrating boundless compassion for the sick and suffering—a devotion that led him to establish the famous "Home for the Relief of Suffering" hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo.
Padre Pio's life remains a powerful witness to the transformative power of faith, patience, and prayer. His famous and timeless counsel, "Pray, hope, and don't worry," continues to offer comfort, encouragement, and a gentle reminder of God's enduring love for all faithful communities today.

We give you thanks for the extraordinary life and witness of Saint Padre Pio.
Through his deep faith, humble service, and constant prayer,
he showed us how to trust completely in your loving care.
In moments of uncertainty, grant us the grace to live out his timeless words:
to pray with devotion, hope without fear, and surrender our worries into your hands.
May his example inspire our parish community to care for the sick,
comfort the suffering, and walk faithfully in your light each day.

Understanding the Catholic Mass: A Beginner's Guide
For those unfamiliar with Catholic traditions, stepping into a church service can feel like entering a whole new world. The quiet reverence, the candles, and the rhythmic flow of standing, sitting, and kneeling all serve a distinct purpose. At the heart of it all is the Mass—the central act of worship in the Catholic faith, offering a regular opportunity for the community to slow down, reflect, and find spiritual strength together away from the rush of daily life.
The service itself flows through four seamless stages, starting with the Introductory Rites, where the congregation gathers, reflects, and prepares their hearts through prayer. This leads into the Liturgy of the Word, where the community listens to readings from both the Old and New Testaments, followed by a homily where the priest connects these scripture passages to everyday life.
The focal point of the service is the Liturgy of the Eucharist, based directly on Jesus' actions at the Last Supper. For Catholics, receiving Holy Communion during this part of the service is a deeply meaningful moment of thanksgiving and spiritual nourishment, as they believe the blessed bread and wine truly become the body and blood of Christ. Finally, the service finishes with the Concluding Rites, where a final blessing encourages everyone to carry God's love, peace, and kindness out into the broader community.
