Dear Students and Families,

Term 3 is always a jam-packed term, and this year has been no different. From music and sport to drama performances and science competitions, this term has had something for everyone. I have no doubt that while there have been plenty of good times, everyone is now ready for a short break.

Class of 2026 - The Final Stretch

I want to acknowledge the incredible commitment our Year 12 students have shown towards their studies this term. Term 3 can feel unrelenting, with a load of learning and a packed assessment schedule. They can be proud of their determination and resilience, as well as their ability to maintain their sense of humour and fun. While this time of year can feel bittersweet, I hope they’re finding satisfaction in ticking off some of those “last ever” school experiences. 

I encourage all students to take some time, particularly prior to the trial exams, to rest and engage in activities that bring joy and balance. There is a strong temptation to fill all waking moments with study at this time of year, but the time spent rejuvenating and having fun is just as important for effective learning.

Unit 3 and 4 Trial Exams

A reminder that students completing Unit 3 and 4 subjects are expected to attend trial exams during the second week of the holidays. These exams are a valuable opportunity to identify areas for further focus ahead of the final assessments. Students should plan to be at school 45 minutes before the start of the trial exam, in full school uniform and with the correct materials. A summary of the timetable is shown below. Parents and students have been provided with a more detailed timetable via email and Compass.

Parent and Carer Event

I enjoyed the chance to wear my other hat as a “JMSS Parent” last night at the school's Parents and Carers’ event. We were fortunate to hear from Prof Craig White, Head of School of Biological Sciences, Monash University.  He spoke about the delicate balance between temperature, metabolic rate, lifespan, mortality, and reproductive rates, and the ultimate impact on industries such as fisheries. It was also a great chance to meet other JMSS parents for a chat over a coffee/tea and a biscuit. I’d like to thank those who attended, and especially Ilya (Year 10 parent) for taking the lead in coordinating the event and Mina (Year 10 parent) and Alice (Year 11 parent) for lending a helping hand on the night. 

We look forward to continuing this and other types of events in 2027.
