Celebrating Term 3 achievements beyond the classroom

As Term 3 2026 enters its final weeks, it is timely to reflect on what has been an exceptionally busy and productive term at school. It has been wonderful to see JMSS students taking their interests, ideas, and skills beyond the classroom, embracing opportunities to excel, make meaningful contributions to the community, and showcase their talents.

Congratulations to our Year 10 students, Ayaan, Hui, Ansh, and Andrew on being selected for the Monash Scholars Program. This program provides Year 10 students with the opportunity to join a network of high-ability students and access targeted programs delivered by Monash University. The Scholars have the opportunity to build relationships with other high-achieving peers, refine their ambitions, explore careers, and develop study skills during the final years of their secondary schooling. Our students were nominated by multiple teachers and demonstrated strong academic performance.

Congratulations to Jasper, who has been selected to contribute to the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference. As a member of the Centre of Excellence: Young People & Disasters Youth Advisory Group, Jasper participated in a panel discussion alongside another Youth Advisory Group member and researchers from the University of Melbourne, Victoria University and Curtin University, exploring a youth-focused, strengths-based approach to disaster resilience. It is a wonderful opportunity for Jasper to contribute a young person’s perspective to important conversations about community safety, preparedness, and resilience.

Congratulations to Aydan and his teacher, Mr Anderson. Aydan recently participated in the Final Round of the Global Quantum Mechanics Challenge and ranked among the top 1% of more than 4,500 participants worldwide. As a result of this outstanding achievement, he was awarded a Gold Honour and received the Junior Division First Prize. The Global Quantum Mechanics Challenge (GQMC) is a global quantum mechanics competition that encourages students to push beyond their curriculum, develop their problem-solving skills, and connect with a worldwide network of enthusiastic peers. We also congratulate Ksenia, who has achieved third place in the Years 10–12 category of the 2026 Parliament Prize. The Parliament Prize is an annual competition inviting Victorian school students to consider what they would say in Parliament if they were a Member of Parliament and to communicate their ideas through a 90-second Member Statement. This is a significant achievement, with this year’s competition attracting 1,180 entries from more than 180 schools across Victoria. Ksenia’s success is a wonderful example of the thoughtful, articulate, and engaged contributions our students can make to conversations about issues that matter to them and their wider community. Congratulations, Ksenia, on this outstanding recognition.

Our school girls’ basketball team has also achieved excellent results in the latest school intermediate basketball competition. They have won their tournament and are now preparing for the next round, where they will compete against schools from other areas. We wish the players all the best with their upcoming games.

Meanwhile, Term 3 has also been a season filled with sporting opportunities. Events such as cross-country and cricket have provided JMSS students with valuable opportunities to collaborate, challenge themselves, and build strong team spirit. Well done to all students who have represented the school and demonstrated commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the term!

Our student, Felix Lopata, took the individual GOLD medal in first place!
