Assistant Principal News

Week 5 Greeting
I hope everyone had a wonderful Melbourne Cup Day public holiday and enjoyed the mid-week break with family and friends. As this was our last public holiday before Christmas, we are now heading into the second half of what continues to be a busy and exciting term. Our students are currently participating in their daily swimming lessons at GESAC, which will continue until the end of next week. It’s been fantastic to hear about their growing confidence and enjoyment in the water each day. A gentle reminder to please ensure that all items students bring to swimming are clearly labelled, as this helps us return misplaced belongings quickly. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our parent volunteers who have generously given their time to support the smooth running of these sessions — your help is greatly appreciated.
Lateness to school
Lately, we have noticed an increasing number of students arriving after the morning bell. Arriving late not only disrupts a child’s own routine but also affects the flow of learning for the rest of the class. A settled start to the day is so important for students’ wellbeing and readiness to learn. We kindly ask families to ensure that children are on the school grounds by the time the music starts, or while it is still playing, to help them transition smoothly into the school day.
CPS 3Rs – New School Values
In our last newsletter, Mr Strain announced our new school values that will officially be implemented at the beginning of 2026. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) Team will be working closely with teachers to plan lessons that unpack and explore these values as part of our Start-Up Program in the new year. During our online school assembly last Friday, our School Captains and Vice Captains did an outstanding job introducing the new values — Respect, Resilience, and Responsibility, the “ CPS 3Rs.” These values will form the foundation of how we learn, interact, and grow together as a community. (CPS 3Rs!)
Intra-School Transition Sessions
Over the past two Fridays, we also held our Intra-School Transition sessions. These sessions provided our students with a wonderful opportunity to become familiar with new learning environments and connect with different teachers and peers. We were especially proud of our current Prep students, who showed great confidence as they walked over to the main building, climbed the stairs, and joined the Year 1 students for some shared reading and fun games. It was delightful to see so many happy and engaged faces as our youngest learners took this important step in their school journey.
Personal Property
Unfortunately, we have been receiving reports of missing personal items. We strongly encourage all students to keep their valuables at home, including keychains attached to school bags. Please note that the school cannot take responsibility for personal belongings that go missing. For more information, please refer to the CPS Personal Property Policy. We would also like to remind students to leave toys and sports equipment at home, as we have plenty of materials available for everyone to use at school. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Snapshots from the classroom
Last week, I visited Miss Gibson’s Literacy lesson, where students were practicing their typing fluency. They were asked to copy a passage from the book they have been reading and type as much as possible within a set time limit. I was impressed to see so many students confidently touch-typing with both accuracy and fluency. Everyone was highly focused and made the most of this opportunity to develop their skills. Great work, Y5/6s!
Until next fortnight,
Miharu Morioka
