What is PLC?
PLC, or Professional Learning Communities, are small groups of teachers collaborating on a specific area of teaching and learning to improve student outcomes. We meet each week on a Wednesday to focus on an identified ‘crumb’ (very specific problem of practice). We work together through an improvement cycle to implement change.
What is our focus in Term 4?
This Term, PLC teams are undertaking a cycle focusing on classroom procedures leading to clear and established routines. By the end of the Term, we aim to have 4 classroom routines documented and ready to introduce at the start of the 2026 school year.
Why?
Positive Classroom Management Strategies from the Department identifies 8 evidence-informed instructional practices designed to create a safer, purposeful learning environment. Practice 2 is Classroom Procedures and Routines. Well-established routines create a sense of security and predictability for students, enhancing their ability to focus on learning.
The importance of routines is also evident in the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0. We know that having clear and consistent routines can drastically reduce the cognitive load on students and teachers and lead to more time on learning.
