Our NBL Experience Night

Students and families recently came together for an exciting and memorable NBL Experience Night, marking the official launch of the Rise in Sport Pathway Program for selected year 8s and year 9s. Before the game, students brought energy and confidence to a dance battle alongside the Melbourne United cheer squad, setting the tone for an engaging and interactive night. Students described the experience as “unreal” and “something they’ll never forget.”

Students then enjoyed the Melbourne United vs Southeast Melbourne Phoenix match, experiencing the atmosphere of live professional sport. A highlight of the evening was the halftime celebration of the 2006 NBL Champion Melbourne Tigers, inspiring students through the recognition of past excellence.

After the game, students were given the unique opportunity to move courtside, placing them just metres away from the players and allowing them to experience the environment up close. This exclusive access made the experience even more memorable, as students were able to fully immerse themselves in a professional sporting setting.

Students were also fortunate to meet Melbourne United star guard Malith Machar. The opportunity to connect with a professional athlete receiving autographs, taking photos, and engaging in conversation was a highlight for many. It made the experience feel personal and real, and as many students quickly pointed out, he was significantly taller than Mr Jacob, which became one of the night’s most talked-about moments.

What stood out most was the strong sense of community, pride, and unity. With a large group of students and staff in attendance, our school was proudly represented. Students supported one another, shared laughter, and built stronger connections through a shared experience. The joy and confidence displayed throughout the evening highlighted the inclusive and supportive environment we continue to foster.

We are incredibly proud of all students who attended and represented the school with such positivity and enthusiasm. If this night is any indication, the journey ahead is filled with promise, growth, and opportunity, as our students continue to rise, lead, and shape their futures within sport and beyond.
