The Year 6 Cross Campus Camp this year took us to Hobart! We left Leighland on Wednesday morning, 10 June and started the long trip south through our beautiful state. We stopped in at the big log at Campbell Town for morning tea before continuing on the drive down to Richmond.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side and we got rained out from our planned walk to the Richmond bridge and activities in town after lunch, however, we made sure to keep our trip to the Richmond Lolly Shop on the plan!

After reaching Blue Lagoon CYC at Dodges Ferry, we had a quick cabin set up and free time before dinner. Mr Mac gave a devotion on building your legacy as a person and then a camp-wide game of Spotlight before bed (we were mostly asleep by 11.00pm!)

Thursday morning we had activities at Blue Lagoon, various initiative and problem-solving games and rock wall climbing. Rock wall climbing had our students learn to belay each other and support each other as they climb.

After lunch we headed into Hobart to Parliament House for a guided tour and a role play of passing a bill through the House of Assembly. We even got to see in the museum area where lots of historical parliamentary artefacts are kept. We also got to see the specially created pen used by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to sign the historical album when they visited the Legislative Council in 1954.

Heading back to camp in the late afternoon, we had dinner before another devotion with Mr Mac sharing his own years as a kid going to camps. This was followed by a bonfire with roasted marshmallows and a team game before crashing for the night (the sugar in those lollies had finally worn off!)

Friday morning saw us pack and head into town to walk along the Hobart pier as we observed the architecture and history of the wharf region, then getting a sneak peek of the Spirit of Tasmania V before making the long track back north to home!
