📚 Literacy

In Literacy, we have begun exploring a new mentor text, Mallee Sky by Jodi Toering. This beautifully illustrated book that uses engaging and vivid adjectives to bring the Mallee landscape to life, while exploring the powerful effects of drought and rain on the region. Students are developing their understanding of how carefully chosen adjectives can create crystal-clear imagery for the reader. As we continue our learning, students will use the text as inspiration to create their own poetry and short pieces of descriptive writing. 

🔢 Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have been diving into the world of algebra and patterns. Students have explored patterns in numbers, shapes, actions and colours, developing their ability to identify what is changing and what is staying the same. Many students successfully identified various patterns, and were also able to continue the patterns. We will continue investigating how numbers can work together to form fact families, as well as exploring how mathematical operations are connected and can work as opposites. Students are beginning to see that algebra isn't as complicated as it sounds, it is about noticing relationships, making connections and explaining our mathematical thinking.

🌏 Integrated Studies

Our Suitcase creations are looking fantastic! These colourful creations have given students the opportunity to share a little bit about our beautiful country while developing their research and presentation skills. We have been learning about the states and territories that make up our country, their capital cities, as well as famous landmarks. Students loved using Google Earth to digitally visit many human-made and natural landmarks all around Australia. Alongside this, students have been researching the different continents of the world and discovering some fascinating facts about our incredible planet.

Did you know that Antarctica is the coldest, driest and windiest continent on Earth, despite containing around 70% of the world's fresh water? Or that Asia is the largest continent, covering about one-third of the world's total land area? We have loved discovering just how diverse and amazing our world is!

🏙️ Earth Ed Excursion

On Friday, our Grade 3 students, accompanied by the Grade 4s, enjoyed a fantastic day at Earth Ed. Our focus was on sustainable cities and exploring how we can make choices today that help create a better future for our planet.

Students were able to share some of the wonderful knowledge they have already developed through our STEM learning, particularly around sustainability and caring for our environment. Working in pairs, students designed their own mini cities and buildings, thinking carefully about how their ideas could be sustainable. They then brought their plans to life using LEGO!

It was wonderful to see students collaborating, sharing ideas and problem-solving together. At the end of the session, we combined everyone's creations to build much larger cities. Students proudly explained how their designs were sustainable and how their creations could help the planet.

It was a fantastic day of learning, creativity, teamwork and big ideas about our future!
