Step Up for Youth Advisory Council
All students at the ECU Careers Day said that the key to success is saying “yes” to opportunities.
Here is an opportunity.
Expressions of interest are invited from 15 – 25-year-olds to join the Ministerial Youth Advisory Council which works directly with the Minister to provide advice on issues affecting young people. Members will serve up to a three-year term from July 2027, gaining valuable leadership experience, developing networks, and creating positive change for young people throughout Western Australia.

UWA Fairway Program
Fairway UWA is an access program that offers senior students, disadvantaged by geography or circumstance, an alternative pathway to university.
Program Benefits & Features:
- ATAR Adjustment: Successful graduates may receive an admission score adjustment (up to 10 points below the standard cut-off) for select undergraduate courses.
- Financial Support: Reasonable travel, accommodation, and food costs for on-campus events are covered by UWA at no personal cost to the student.
Academic Assistance: Includes mentoring, online tutoring, ATAR course revision, and special campus events like a residential summer/residential program.
- Ongoing Support: Provides access to specialized scholarships and continued peer backing once enrolled at university.

Projects Abroad
There are several organisations that arrange student tours and work experience abroad. Projects Abroad is just one of those companies, and it seems to be the most active in Western Australia.
Students need to be at least 14 to go on a tour although I don’t think I’d want my 14-year-old doing a medical internship in Sri Lanka!!
They are currently promoting these programs:
December 2026:
- Elephant & Bear Conservation in Cambodia for Teenagers
- Medical Internships in Spain for Teenagers
- Medical Internship for Teenagers in Sri Lanka
January 2027:
- Volunteer with Children in Cambodia for Teenagers
- Diving & Marine Conservation in Thailand for Teenagers

Curtin Excellence Scholarships
The Curtin Excellence Scholarship rewards students who have demonstrated academic excellence by achieving an ATAR of 96 and above, and who want to pursue study at Curtin University.
Application forms are not required; students apply by selecting an eligible Curtin degree through TISC as their first preference by the scholarship closing date.
Students who receive the StepUp bonus and therefore achieve the required ATAR will be eligible for this scholarship. For information on full eligibility criteria for candidates, visit the Curtin University Scholarships webpage.
Can you aim for the Curtin Scholarship Program?
You need to demonstrate academic excellence, AND leadership qualities and engagement in community service.
If you are among the top 5% academically at your school, look for opportunities to demonstrate leadership and engagement in community services to be nominated by your principal for the Curtin Scholarship.
This scholarship paves the way to success: Scholars will receive:
- a high level of financial support over the duration of their undergraduate studies.
- funding toward an international study experience.
- opportunities to develop the personal qualities to become a future leader and to inspire change.
- a closely connected community of scholars and alumni that offers ongoing mentorship and inspiration to achieve excellence.
