Principal's Report

Dear St. Cecilia's Community,
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope the break provided a chance for rest, family time and a fresh start for the term ahead. It is already shaping up to be a rich and engaging term for our students, with a range of learning experiences, community events and opportunities to come together. We look forward to celebrating our Year 3 students as they prepare for and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, as well as welcoming families to special events such as our Mother’s Day Breakfast, Liturgical Music Day and Concert with Andrew Chinn, the School Disco and our Athletics Carnival. Alongside these highlights, there will be important learning milestones, including reports and parent teacher conversations, all contributing to a purposeful and connected term for our school community.
As a reminder, following the approach introduced in Term 1, our school newsletter will be shared three times each term, on the Friday of Weeks 3, 6 and 9. This helps ensure clear, timely communication while keeping information manageable for families.
Thank You for a Special Morning
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us this morning for our Mums, Carers and Special Person Breakfast. It was a wonderful way to begin the day and a lovely reminder of the strong sense of community that exists at St Cecilia’s.
There was a warm and relaxed feel throughout the hall, with students proudly hosting their special guests and families enjoying the opportunity to connect with one another. These simple moments are often the most meaningful, and this event continues to hold a very special place in our school calendar.
A heartfelt thank you to our volunteer parents, led so capably by Mark Cooray, and to the team of dads who worked behind the scenes to make the morning run so smoothly. Your time, organisation and generosity are greatly appreciated by our whole community.
Thank you again for your support and for being part of such a special morning.

Parents’ Association Update – Building for the Future
Our Parents’ Association continues to make a meaningful difference in the life of our school. Through the generosity, time and energy of many volunteer parents over a number of years, we have been able to create opportunities that directly enhance the experience of our students. Along the way, the PA has also raised significant funds, which are now being thoughtfully invested back into the school.
This term, we are pleased to share progress on three exciting initiatives that the PA has actively supported.
The first is a key part of our library refurbishment, with a particular focus on upgrading our podcast room. This space is being developed into a highly professional environment where students can record, share and celebrate their learning. It will provide a powerful platform for student voice and creativity. As this work begins, we will share updates and photos, along with information for families on how you can access and enjoy this student work (digital image provided).
Secondly, a new digital information board will soon be installed in the undercroft area. This is a high-traffic space for families, and the screen will provide a clear and engaging way to share important updates, key dates and highlights of school life. It will become a valuable communication tool for our community.
Finally, Stage 3 of our landscaping masterplan will commence next week on the corner of Hillside Parade and Van Ness Avenue. This area will create a strong and welcoming first impression of our school, with improved signage and an attractive streetscape. It is an important step in continuing to enhance the presentation and identity of St Cecilia’s.
We look forward to sharing progress updates and photos across all three projects in the coming weeks.
We thank our Parents’ Association for their ongoing commitment and support. If you have ideas for future initiatives, we encourage you to attend a PA meeting or reach out via email. Your involvement continues to shape and strengthen our school community.
