What's Been Happening?

YEAR 3 NEWS!
In addition to doing a fantastic job running our first cross country last Friday, the Year 3's have been busy exploring maths concepts with hands-on activities in the classroom.
Today we identified five items which we estimated to be 1m, and measured them to see how close our estimates were. When we found an item that was 1m wide, we estimated how many we would need to measure the width and height of the room. Last week we completed our topic on fractions - recognising fractions of a shape, a collection as well as representing them on numberlines.
We've also begun exploring ethical problems each fortnight - ask us what a conundrum is!
Grade 1 News
Grade 1 are investigating Procedure texts this term. This week they have been channelling their pirate energy by following the procedure text of ‘How to make a newspaper pirate hat’. After successfully identifying the steps involved they made a pirate hat. Ahoy me hearties!

This is what happened this term so far. We had camp, cross country and lots more interesting activities!
Cross Country
On Friday the 1st of May the yr 3s to 6s had cross country. For us yr 4’s it was our second year at cross country. It was at Nettleton Park and the top 10 people will go on to districts and so on. We ate our snacks then walked there. It wasn't too far from St Cecilia’s. The 13 and 12 yr old boys and girls went first then the 11 and 10 yr old boys went then the girls. Both of their races were 3km. That's when the wind picked up and all the marquees flew away, luckily they didn’t hit anyone except for Miss Christie. After that was the 9 and 8 yr old boys then the girls we only had to do 2km races. After a bit of waiting we were ready to hear which house won. As the pressure was building up, Mr Balcombe announced who won. In 4th place gold, 3rd place blue, 2nd place red and finally, 1st place green.
Camp
We had camp earlier this term in Ballarat at Adekate Camp. We visited Sovereign Hill before we got to camp. There were lots of shops and streets, and we got to visit most of them as well. We even got to go gold panning which was really exciting. After we finally got to Adekate, we got to find out who was in our cabins. We ate dinner after that and the food was so good. The next morning, we split into our activity groups to do the activities. The activities of the whole camp were the Duel Zipline, Possum Glider, Initiatives, Crate Stacking, Animal Find, Giant Slingshot, and Archery. After what felt like forever we finally went home to see our families.
Learning
This term we have been learning about a series of all different topics. In English, we have been writing cinquain poems. We even did some about the goldfields, here's one Phoebe made:
Women on the Goldfields
Harsh ways
No rest or hope
Cook, disinfect, walk, repeat
Lifeless and afraid not listened
Fighting
By Phoebe
In maths we have been learning about decimals and practicing our times tables .For inquiry, we have been learning about the Victorian goldrush that was around 1851 - early 1860s and the Eureka Stockade. We have been writing stories about it,and at camp we went to Sovereign Hill to learn even more. For example, we made one where we could pretend to either be an aboriginal person at the time, a convict on the first fleet or a miner in those times sport and next week w.All mum.
Conclusion
This term has been so sensational so far. These are each of our favourite parts:
