Grade 3/4/5

Week 5 already! We only have 5 more weeks to go before we are back on holidays. Time is flying!
We have been very busy preparing ourselves for NAPLAN, which begins on the 11th of March. Students have been practising reading comprehension strategies, responding to different question types, and building their writing stamina. We have also started our new novel Leo and Ralph and are really enjoying getting to know the characters. As part of our literacy work, we have been learning about similes and working hard to expand our sentences by adding more detail to make our writing more interesting and engaging.
In Mathematics, we have just finished learning about addition and subtraction using a number line. We also practised solving addition and subtraction problems by splitting numbers into tens and ones, then adding the two answers together. The students have shown great persistence with these strategies. We are now beginning our new unit on time and have started by looking at formal units of time, such as seconds, minutes and hours.
Just a reminder that in Week 7 (9th and 10th of March) there will be no school due to the Labour Day long weekend and a staff professional development day on the 10th.
I can’t wait to keep the momentum going for the rest of the term!
