Water Polo Tournament – Student Fundraiser
Zach, from Year 6, is competing in the Canberra Cup Water Polo Tournament in November. He and his team are fundraising to help cover our team entry fees and, if they raise enough, the cost of flights for their coach.
To support our fundraising, we're swimming the distance from Northcote to Canberra "as the crow flies" total of 458 km over the next 14 weeks.
Below is our fundraising card with a QR code.
We would really appreciate any support from members of the school community. You can choose to sponsor us by donating an amount for every kilometre we swim or by making a one-off donation if we complete the full 458 km challenge.
There are also two Fairfield graduates playing on the team, Parker G and Lucas C (now in Year 7). We all play for the Northcote Krakens.
Classroom Cuisine – Updated Term 3 Menu
Classroom Cuisine have added the following to their menu:
- Herbed chicken gozlemes
- Croissant with ham & cheese
- Pancakes with strawberries, blueberries & honey

Darebin Giants – Registrations Open
Darebin Giants basketball season registrations are now open.
The season begins early October, and runs through to March, with age groups from U8 – U21.
- Registrations close 28 August.

Free Family Matinee – Darebin FUSE Festival
Families are invited an afternoon of family films and fun with the Blow-Up Cinema coming to Preston City Hall, as part of Darebin FUSE Festival's Film Sessions program.
- When: Sunday 6 September
- Where: Preston City Hall 284 Gower Street, Preston
- Doors open: 1:15pm

- A short film celebrating the journey of Wurundjeri-willam, Dja Dja wurrung and Ngurai illum wurrung woman Mandy Nicholson, as she explores the ways we embody, grow, nurture, and transmit knowledge and culture over time.
Kangaroo
- 2:20pm: Kangaroo
- Inspired by Chris 'Brolga' Barns, the founder of The Kangaroo Sanctuary, the film follows Chris who after being stranded, teams up with a young girl to help rehabilitate young, injured joeys.
The Magic Faraway Tree
- 4.30pm: The Magic Faraway Tree
- Adapted from Enid Blyton’s classic tale, the film follows a family who relocate to the countryside where the children discover a magical tree with eccentric residents.
Lithium-ion Battery Safety
As the school year continues, many students are using devices such as laptops, tablets, phones, e-bikes and e-scooters. Most of these devices contain lithium-ion batteries, which have become part of everyday life, but need to be used safely.
Fire services are responding to an increasing number of fires caused by lithium-ion batteries, often caused by incorrect charging or leaving devices unattended. That’s why fire safety at home is especially important during the school year.
You can help reduce the risk by:
- Only using the charger and battery designed for each device
- Unplugging devices once fully charged
- Never charging devices on soft surfaces like beds or couches
- Not charging devices overnight, or when no one is home
- Charging larger devices such as e-bikes and e-scooters away from living spaces and keeping them clear of exits
Regularly checking devices and stopping use if a battery looks damaged, swollen or overheats
