Bullying 'No Way' Week

Wellbeing Update

Bullying No Way Week

This year we are participating in Bullying No Way Week in Week 6 (August 17th - 21st).

Bullying No Way Week is Australia’s leading initiative for bullying prevention in schools.

It provides an opportunity for schools to foster a shared understanding of bullying behaviours and to promote strategies to prevent them.

This year’s theme is ‘Small Acts, Big Impact,’ highlighting that preventing bullying is everyone’s responsibility. Small acts of respect, kindness and empathy can make a real difference and remind us that even simple actions can positively change someone’s day.

Seemingly small actions, such as including others, speaking up when something isn’t right, and showing kindness help create a school community where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

In our school and community, we are committed to building an environment where everyone belongs, diversity is celebrated and bullying is never accepted.

During Bullying No Way Week, our students will be participating in lessons based on this year’s theme. These lessons have been adapted from the Bullying No Way Week resources to ensure they fit with our SWPBS bullying prevention lessons that were taught in all grades last term. In these lessons, we teach our students to use the ‘Stop, Walk, Talk’ method if/when they see or hear disrespectful or bullying behaviour.

Below are examples of the Stop Walk Talk posters created by students.

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by talking with their children about the importance of kindness, inclusion, standing up for others, and by reinforcing the notion of Stop, Walk, Talk.
