Year 11 into 12 Step-Up Program
The Step Up Program these last two weeks has been a great success! It's been an opportunity for students to meet their new teachers and the students who will be in their classes for 2025.
Furthermore, every subject started the content for next year, essential holiday homework was distributed, and due dates were set.
Year 12 Retreat
On Wednesday 20 November, Year 12s of 2025 headed out for a 3-day retreat at Alexandra Adventure Resort. Our first impression of the camp was of a sprawling green lawn dotted with activities and dipping into a glistening lake lined with canoes.
After a snack break and introduction to our cabins, we were set out in groups to try out these activities. The giant swing and leap of faith were undoubtedly the most adrenaline-inducing; leaping from a platform required levels of mental resolve that left those who conquered the challenge glowing with confidence.
Spread across that afternoon and the next day were activities such as high ropes, canoeing, various sports, theatre games, and laser sport, which put our teamwork and athleticism to the test. In the evenings, we were able to enjoy the facilities, with some holding a beach volleyball tournament and others making use of the lake to catch fish.
The energy from everyone during trivia night created such an amazing atmosphere, which was only further improved by the arrival of our long-awaited Year 12 jumpers. Baby photos of the teachers put our knowledge of them to the test and were by far the most entertaining trivia round, followed by a round challenging our memory of the trailer for “Stepbrothers.” The trivia night ended with the pleasure of receiving our Year 12 jumpers. We are thankful to the coordination team who worked really hard to present us with the opportunity to wear our jumpers so early.
Held on the third and final day, the Amazing Race was a highlight for everyone, especially those lucky chosen few who escaped the heat by diving into the pool blindfolded to retrieve a token. Other challenges included throwing a ball to a teammate standing in a hoop while flying past on the giant swing, a rock climbing wall, team hoop-shooting basketball, stacking and climbing crates to reach suspended tokens, popping balloons in archery, and racing other canoes across the lake to find your team’s token.
The silver team who won were lucky, as there was supposed to be a dodgeball game between 1st and 2nd, but that was ruled out due to the heat.
The camp was a really good bonding experience for all of us, helping us celebrate finishing Year 11 and becoming Year 12s. The experience was worth battling the heat, and we would definitely recommend it to those in the future. We are all also very grateful for the time and attention given by the teachers, especially Mr. Huby, who organized the camp, as it is possibly the best camp!
