INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC
Remembrance Day – ABC Performance
As part of the Remembrance Day school assembly, Year 8 rock group ABC performed 2 songs – ‘Semitones & Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘No Surprises’. With all staff and students in Years 7 – 11 attending, it was a very brave achievement and you sounded fantastic! Well done Ari, Ben and Callum.
Lunchtime on the Deck
During Term 4, the PAC deck has been the place to be during lunch, with entertainment provided by Year 8 rock bands Allusion and ABC. Both bands used this time to prepare for their performances at the Lilydale Melba Festival and Street Fair. It’s fantastic to see both bands continue to develop their repertoire and confidence. Congratulations, guys!
Open Mic Performances
Last Thursday, the PAC deck was set up with a selection of instruments for any student who wanted to take the stage and play a song or two. Thank you, Phoenix, Charlie, Jordan, Matt, Tallyn, Joel, and Sigourney for your entertaining performances on drums, guitar, keys, harmonica, and vocals.
APRA - Songwriting and Recording Session
Earlier this term, rock group ABC participated in a songwriting competition run by ALWAYS LIVE, JOF & Fed Square and received the opportunity to participate in a 2-day recording session run by APRA SongMakers.
Day 1 consisted of a songwriting workshop with industry professionals, while Day 2 was spent in the studio where Ari, Ben, and Callum recorded their original song with lyrics and music.
We look forward to being able to share this with the LHS community once the editing is complete.
Work Experience - Sister Act, The Musical
AEP (Arts Enrichment Program) student York Newell has recently completed work experience at the Regent Theatre on the musical, ‘Sister Act’.
York assisted with stage management, wardrobe and wigs, and sound and lighting, and thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous experience.
York is looking towards a career in musical theatre, so this was the perfect opportunity to see the workings of professional theatre.

Lilydale High’s Got Talent 2025
Term 1, Week 8
Yes, it's BACK!! We are again calling on the amazing talents of all LHS students for Lilydale High's Got Talent 2025!
Ideas can include dance, magic, athletic abilities and tricks, lip-syncing, air guitar/drums, beatboxing, cheerleading, impersonations, martial arts, slam poetry, juggling, hula hooping…anything really (other than music, save this for The Voice and Battle of the Bands).
This year, audiences were wowed with a speedy Rubik’s Cube solver, circus act, a Wikispeed run, and stand-up comedy. We will never forget Jade McCullough winning the contest with her mind-blowing contortionism.

2025 New and Re-enrolments
Learning to play a musical instrument has so many benefits – whether it’s building your confidence, enhancing your memory or widening your social circle. Not only is it fun, playing an instrument can also relieve stress and because both sides of the brain are used, research has found that it can enhance verbal memory, spatial reasoning and literacy skills.
