From the Classroom

Year 3 & 4 Science
Over this term in Science, students have been exploring our 'Sustain the Chain' unit and developing their understanding of how living things depend on one another within ecosystems. We began by investigating our local environment, identifying living and non-living things and recording observations in our science journals. We learned about producers and consumers, and how energy moves through a food chain. As part of our investigations, students also conducted a fascinating banana decomposition experiment, observing and recording the changes that occurred over time. This hands-on investigation helped students understand the important role of decomposers in ecosystems and the cycling of matter. Through discussions, observations and collaborative activities, students developed a deeper appreciation of how all living things are connected and how changes within an environment can impact an ecosystem.
