Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY:  

Inquiry: We have begun our innovative inventions task. Please continue having discussions with your child about the innovative invention they are creating. 

 

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.   

 

Mathematics: Working on general multiplication skills with the goal for automaticity of the facts up to x12 

 

Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop:  

For the next few weeks, students will be planning and writing about their own design process as they develop an innovative invention. They will record how they generate ideas, plan, create, test, and refine their designs. 

 

Mathematics: Students have continued exploring fractions, with a focus on developing their understanding of equivalent fractions and adding fractions with like denominators. Over the coming weeks, students will continue to build fluency in working with fractions and begin exploring the connections between fractions, decimals and percentages, strengthening their understanding of number relationships and how different representations can be used to describe the same value. 

 

Inquiry: This week we have begun our innovative inventions task. Please have a discussion with your child about an innovative invention they are designing. They could show you the design brief on Toddle. As part of this unit, students are exploring how technology and inventions have advanced over time, as well as the fairness of access to different technologies around the world. They will use this learning to help them design an innovation that considers people’s needs and aims to make a positive impact on someone’s life. 

 

Uniform:  

Please ensure your child is in correct school uniform, which includes correct formal shoes on Monday and Wednesday and no additional jewellery. Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines located on the school’s website. There have been students wearing incorrect uniform, including socks and shoes and it would be appreciated if these could be rectified.  (https://www.goldengrove.sa.edu.au/school-life/uniform/

 

Year 6 Jackets: 

We are anticipating the arrival of the new school jackets as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the supplier has experienced some difficulties sourcing materials, which has caused a delay. They are expecting the material to be delivered mid next week and then they will finish off making the jackets. We understand this may be frustrating; however, the silver lining is that these jackets may be worn with both the sports and formal uniform.  

 

SACSA events: 

Training for SACSA Soccer has begun, with the competition taking place in this Friday. Once this event has concluded, students will begin training for SACSA Netball, which will be held in Term 3, Week 4, followed by SACSA Basketball in Term 4. 

If your child is interested in trying out for any of these events, please encourage them to practise their fitness, ball skills and teamwork skills at home. 

 

Church Café: 

Although we love the church café, we would appreciate if parents don’t buy drinks from the café just before the beginning of the school day. Milkshakes and hot chocolates are not allowed to be brought into classrooms, as it creates a hurdle for the start of the day.
