Reader’s and Writer’s workshop:
We have now finished our class novel, Charlotte's Web. Throughout our reading, we explored the story together and made connections to our inquiry unit on systems by identifying and discussing the different systems we noticed within the text.
Students have been working on writing a book review, sharing their thoughts and opinions about the novel while providing evidence from the text to support their ideas. In the coming weeks, we will watch the movie adaptation of Charlotte's Web and compare it to the book, discussing similarities and differences between the two versions and considering how stories can be represented in different ways.
Mathematics: We are continuing to explore measurement and the metric system. We continue to learn about the system of measurement and have been exploring length, capacity, mass and temperature.
We have had a focus on multiplication and division and explored how we use these mathematical skills in everyday situations. Students have been developing their understanding of groups, sharing, and repeated addition, while making real-life connections to shopping, cooking, sharing items, and solving practical problems.
Unit of Inquiry: Our “How the World Works” unit on systems continues, and we have been exploring what a system is and the different types of systems we use in everyday life. We have had a focus on government and learning about what our local council does for our community.

Premier’s Reading Challenge: This year in the 3/4 cluster, students will have their own individual records to track the books they read. Students are required to read eight books from the book list and four free choice books. The full list of suitable books for your child can be found online at this link: https://premiersreadingchallenge.sa.edu.au/book-list/
As you read books at home, please feel free to email them to me so I can help your child to add them to their list or alternatively feel free to visit the classroom before or after school to add them to the list with your child. The recording sheets will be kept at school. We will also aim to read some books as a class to help to complete our records.
