Year 1/2

Year 1/2 Cluster News

What an exciting Celebration of Learning we had on Tuesday night! Thank you for coming along to support your child. This evening allowed them to develop confidence in explaining their conceptual learning and share with you aspects that they were proud of and those that they are working towards.

Morning Arrivals and Early Pick Ups

A reminder that we start the morning routines soon after the bell at 8:45am. If your child arrives late, it does not allow them time to settle in and people coming in at different times takes the focus away from our morning together. We use this time to strengthen our class culture, through sharing important events and celebrations including birthdays, talking about any changes and important information for the day, taking the roll and praying together about needs in our families and school community.

Please let your class teacher and the office know in advance of any planned times when your child will be picked up early. We understand that sometimes this is unavoidable, however there has been an increase in the office being notified at short notice of children being collected. This interrupts the learning we have planned for the day, particularly if your child is working in a group or where we have planned extra support.

Mrs Arnold on Leave

Mrs Arnold will be on Long Service Leave on Thursday 4th June and Tuesday 9th-Thursday 11th June. Mrs Jo Ruediger, an experienced Junior Primary Teacher, known to the class and well known in the school, will be teaching 1/2AK. This week on Friday, Mrs Kat Neumann will be teaching in 1/2AK.

Friday 12th June Alice in Wonderland excursion, 10:00am – 1.30pm

No lunch orders. Please send a small named backpack instead of the school bag with fruit snack, recess, lunch and a water bottle. Take Home Folders can remain at home.

We need 4 more volunteers to meet us at the theatre and supervise students from 10.30am – 1:00pm while they eat and watch the production. Please email your child’s teacher if you would like to volunteer and have all your volunteer checks up-to-date.

Permission needs to be given by following a link that was sent via email on 27/5. Please contact the front office if you need help with this.

Tuesday 16th June Incursion: Toys from the past, 9.15am -11.15am

As part of the next Unit of Inquiry ‘Where We Are in Place and Time’, Year 1/2 students will learn about and play with children’s toys from the 1890s. Alan ‘The Toy Man’ from the Australian Museum of Childhood will guide the students to compare and contrast toys of the past with modern toys.

Gumboots

To use the nature play area, students must bring gumboots to change into at school. Please place them in a bag labelled with your child’s name.

Home Inquiry

Talk to your child about what you and/or their grandparents did in their play time when you/they were young. Ask your child to consider what is similar/the same today and what has changed e.g. Lego was simple, now there are elaborate kits with instructions.

Reading: every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.
