Kalinda Book of the Year! - Book Week 2025

Kalinda has voted. And the winner is…

The Truck Cat, by Deborah Frenkel!

Kalinda classes read all six picture books short-listed by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA), and voted for their favourite. The clear winner was The Truck Cat, the beautiful story of a cat named Tinka and his human Yacoub, a truck driver who is an immigrant to Australia. The story explores themes of identity, belonging, separation, and ultimately love and connection.

This deserving winner ALSO won the 2025 CBCA Picture Book of the Year.

The annual Kalinda Poetry and Story-writing competition & anthology!

Each year, Kalinda students from grades 3-6 are invited to write a poem or a story relating to the Book Week theme. This year, that theme was Book an Adventure!

This year’s winners will be announced at our upcoming assembly, so stay tuned…

Temporary library closure

The library remains closed for the rest of term, while the roof gets fixed. But we can’t be without new books to read for that long! Luckily our grades 3-6 are well set up with their classroom libraries, while F-2 are still visiting our ‘mini-library,’ temporarily operating out of a spare classroom.
